He epitomises and encapsulates everything about P/NDC: He was in the government indicted for the abduction and murder of Three Judges, for which he provided an alibi; he saw at first hand, the murder of Kyeremeh Djan and thousands of Ghanaians; he helped supervised the creation and setting up of CDRs, PDCs, WDCs to terrorise Ghanaians; he always knew about the establishment of Vettings, Investigations, Tribunals and Confiscation of Properties of private individuals and curfews, extra judicial killings by PNDC; the tyranny of security agencies led by BNI and Commandos/Militia. He was at the heart of government when many innocent Ghanaians including the writer were forced to go into exile, whiles others were imprisoned and given draconian fines; as many enterprising souls lay vanguished under the military boots of the Revolution ...Nyanteh, Siaw, Boakye Mattress, Addison, Darko, Kwesi Brew, Dakmak, Fiifi Larbi and many others suffered whiles he remained at the heart of the decision-making process. There are countless stories about this man. He is said to be one of the most corrupt Politicians ever known in Ghana since 1951. His last cruel act was to sit in the meeting that led Amissah Arthur to open the Bank of Ghana vault to release over GH8 Billion CEDIS for NDC Electionioneerin Campaign in reward of his Vice President position. Did he care if Ghana was going to be so Bankrupt? P V Obeng was one of the key Players when Ghana's Factories in Tema and elsewhere, Gold and Diamond Mines, Palatial Hotels were liquidated under the Divestiture Implementation Committee. he led the sale of all the State Corporations - PWD, SCC, SHC, MMB, Produce Buying Division of GCMB. He was a key figure head in the dissipation of State Revenues. He was among those who painfully decided to reduce secondary school education from seven to three years. That was one of the savage acts of government. I personally witnessed his contribution to wastefulness that characterised and eventually led to the demise of Ghana Airways...How many people did not hear his womanising ways that transcended Kutu Acheampong's? He was always the Country's Prime Minister and Major Advisor to all the Presidents of NDC Governments. As a Former SRC President with Nana Konadu Rawlings as her Vice at UST, he had the closest connections to Rawlings and was thus a huge participant of key decision making process of the P/NDC for over two decades of his adult life. He had a hand in appointing Ministers, Secretaries, MCEs DCEs and everything that went on in government. He was always a PNDC member under J J Rawlings and should be held responsible for all his excesses and waywardness. Who knows whether he engineered all the evil as Satan also had a handsome face like his. Was PV Obeng not the Key Advisor of President Atta Mills? What was his last role in Ghana Politics? Chairman of National Development Planning Commission...Meaning nothing was planned without him including the Senchi Forum, which became his last swansong...He can be deified and given a State Burial but people would ask: Where was P V Obeng when PNDC Account 48 was being dissipated? He knew a lot that went wrong during his close association with JJ, but did not have the courage to speak out when it mattered most. PV, was more interested in protecting his ill-gotten gains and sought to remain relevant to the vindictive NDC-he was constantly looking over his shoulders for obvious reasons. His long-term public service, spanning some 33 years (1981-2014) was not borne out of pure political/ideological conviction or selflessness but by fear of the ''shadows'' of past corrupt association with JJ from the Mankoadze days. In the end he assisted in overthrowing a legitimately elected government of Dr Limann but what legacy did he leave to justify his role in the misrule by JJ? Nothing, except greed and more greed while the country has retrogressed in deserved development for 30 years. How come we still talk of filth enveloping Accra and other cities? God help black leaders, who still do not understand the world and yet pretend that they can rule a nation!! Schools, hospitals, and roads still remain poorly developed, and PV was central to most of the key decisions over the P/NDC 26 years rule of Ghana-as he was touted as the Prime Minister in the PNDC days.
