I like the historical analysis or explanation of how the 'black star' came to be.
There was a lot of pride back then to be a Ghanaian and to be associated with anything and everything Ghanaian. Ghana was the beacon to which other black African nations looked up to for inspiration in their own fights against colonialism.
Unfortunately, that shining black star has been dimming under the various Ghanaian leaderships that came after Kwame Nkrumah.
Look at us now.... "DUMSOR" is now a word synonymous with inefficency of the Ghanaian everyday life.
Our capital city is now filled with filth and garbage that we can now comfortably say filth and garbage have now become our next door neighbours.
Our educational system is nothing to write home about.
Our health care system makes one cringe just thinking about it.
Our roads and highways have become suicidal death traps on the parts of those who use them.
Every good thing about our beautiful nation has failed or just about collapsing due to poor governance.
Now it has become a habit of our political leaders go to our former colonizers with a cup in hand asking for bail outs.
So it's my fervent hope that the last paragraph of your piece... and I quote "Today, the black star is the only symbol from Ghana’s independence that reminds the people of Ghana as champions of Africa’s freedom and pride. Beyond that it’s a monument of a kind that incites hope, leadership and accountability in all black generations. It designates all black people as free and out of this freedom they manage their own affairs. The next time you see the black star, remember you have a duty to fulfill. Shine! Shine! Shine! Let all blacks shine to dispel the darkness of retrogression." will become the mantra around which Ghanaians can gather hope and fight the political establishment that has put a stranglehold on this 'black star' and dimmed its attraction, thereby making a mockery of the great idea that our forefathers put in place.
Thanks once again the article.
