You said Nkrumah had great vision but had the implementation wrong.
I think you've lost the point here by not considering that the situation at the time when communism was more popular than capitalism. All capitalist states were then recovering from WARS so was the communist states but communism was still popular as it gave room for the people to become more innovative before opening up their markets.
Look at China today, it started as a communist state before carefully and gradually opening up. Do you remember when we used to wear Chinese Canvass? Or you were not born then?
Ghana used to make own shoes and we had very good ones as Bata. Bata could have evolved to be a giant Shoe maker in the global market today but because of your capitalism.
Nkrumah only needed the support of Mate me ho to make it work not to overthrow him consulting the CIA.

Sister Kate you are using language that has been foisted upon you to deceive your own self.
Saying that "China started as a Communist state before now opening up" is the kind of propaganda language that global imperialism uses to impress upon people that communism is bad or that it precludes opening up and unduly suppresses the liberties of its own people. After having suppressed and looted our mineral and human resources for over hundred years to become rich, they have the imudence to lecture us on civil liberties and economic freedoms.
China is still very much a Communist state. It is called the Communist Peoples Republic of China. And for your information, communism does not necessarily debar certain economic activities. Communism simply means that the economy is regulated by the state and not the private sector. At this point in time China has the fastest growing number of millionaires than in any country. It is only in backward neo-colonial countries like Ghana where a penniless private sector is made to be seen to be leading development. What should we expect as a result?
Take for instance that today, the major capitalist countries who have touted free trade are now pleading with the Communist state of China to actually control its exports to other countries. Also recently in America, the state had to intervene to borrow huge sums of monies to their crippling private sector to kick-start their economy. This is or was one of the most colossal and classic examples of state intervention in the economic history of the world.
Finally your statement that Communism was popular because it became more innovative is not quite true. Communism was poular at the time of independence because it was only communst states like the Soviet Union, Cuba and China that assisted oppressed and hapless African countries to gain independence from tyrannical colonialists.

China was not going anywhere economically until it opened its markets for foreign companies to flood in. China is Communist but capitalist e onomically. China might be producing millionaires at a faster rate than any country and it is not a surprise when it has 1.6 billion population and almost one fourth of the world population but don't forget that even with all these economic achievements, the standard of living or GDP per person is still below that of countries like Spain, South Africa and Jamaica. China is just like Russia when it discarded its unworkable communist economic theory. There are many economic opportunities during its transformational period and that is why people with some money and political connections are becoming millionaires.
If you want a typical communist state now, you shouldn't look far but North Korea which is the only country now practicing communism since Cuba even now is allowing individuals to operate their own businesses for profit making.
Communism is an economic failure and dead.

Tilapia,I think you may be singing from the same hymn sheet with Sister Kate.Sister kate assertion is probably in agreement with why Nkrumah opted for socialism in the first place.According to Nkrumah socialism which some of his opponents call communism is the shortest route to development of a young nation like Ghana.
The implication is that after the economic and developmental infrastructure had been firmly laid,we would gradually begin to open the system to embrace the market in a market stroke state control economy.
That approach is what is making China the economic giant of the world and is virtually on its way to becoming the hegemony of the world. When the capitalist market collapsed it was China which intervened to rescue the capitalist economies.Cardinal and likes are either blind to reality or incapable of seeing through the clusters of western propaganda.
Sister Kate might be saying the same thing in a different way but most importantly she appreciates the fact that the UP and its descendants sabotaged the progress that this country would have made if it were not for their collusion with the white colonialist to derail our forward march

So what happened to your communism? All its practitioners realized how good it sounds theoretically but practically useless.
All those countries that started ac Communist state and later turned to capitalism was not by design. The communist foundation betrayed them with poverty and shoddy goods and they discarded its useless economic theory, China, USSR etc.
Thpical example and a good one how useless communism is can be studied from the East and West Germany extrapolation.
Nkrumah built all those factories and it was good since Ghanaians at that time didn't have the capital but all those factories were bound to fail unless it was privatized. When Nkrumah was removed in 1966, almost all his factories were failing with the best of them running at 25 percent of capacity. It is therefore idiocy for those Nkrumaists to still insist we should go back to the Nkrumah developmental plans that have failed miserably elsewhere around the globe. Look at North Korea, they can't even feed themselves.

So Mr Cardinal, if I may ask you, if all the communist states - and they were very few, have failed, what about all the overwhelming number of countries - including Ghana that adopted capitalism? What have they achieved since then and where have they got to? In only ten years of Nkrumahs attempt at partial socialism he produced and created so much that this country still hangs on to his achievements for survival.
For your information and education, communism has appeared to have failed and this is not because of internal or ideological weaknesses. There was a concerted global effort by imperialist countries to undermine communism for its own survival. Western democracy that claims to accept all creeds and dogmas, isolates and demonizes communism alone with a pathological fear and hatred. Cardinal, go back to sleep and when you wake up ask yourself why?
Those capitalist countries that are doing visibly well are exclusively those that enslaved, colonized and oppressed you for several centuries whilst looting your resources for their exclusive benefit in the process. After all that, they wont even give you common visas to go to their countries to go and see what they did with the blood of your ancestors and your wealth and you, a poor pitiable nigger sits here and farts from your mouth about the superiority of the glamorized slave system?
Cant you see some correlation in the oppression of subjective and weak nations and the success of the oppressor capitalist state? Please do this equation for me 1+1 =
Reading between the lines, it is obvious that you are just another victim of the massive onslaught of the local imperialist education and propaganda and brain-washing media apparatus. It will take you a while - possibly not even yourself but your children may hopefully eventually see the light of liberation and real freedom for the African. There are several countries who border the most advanced capitalist nation in the world, America, who have also been practicing capitalism for over 200 years since their independence and thanks to the fantastic achievements of Nkrumah, their poverty levels far exceed that of ours.
Nkrumah was in power for about 9 years. He set up most of those industries just before he was illegitimately overthrown by the puppets of the global imperialist hegemony who had begun to panic at the fact that they were soon going to lose their cheap or even free source of raw materials if Nkrumah proceeded as planned. They then set into motion, their vilification propaganda machinery to undermine and overthrow Nkrumah. It was so bad that several decades later victims of this negative propaganda, such as yourself, still persist. You badly need to be debriefed to become a proud and intelligent African again.
Even going by the best practices of capitalist norms in the most economically congenial atmosphere, most start-up companies do not break-even or even make profit before their first two to three years of operation. Why is it that ignorant people who are being led by their noses into self-destruction think that Nkrumah should have performed miracles to make the newly established factories in the extremely difficult circumstances of a newly independent country viable and profitable overnight? Cardinal, what school did you go to?
Within those 9 wonderful yearsEven if for nothing at all, these factories and corporations created more than enough employment to the youth at the time. Today where are our youth? Standing in the middle of streets and selling dog-chains whilst others are scheming to rob you at gun-point in the middle of the night.
As for North Korea dont go there at all. I notice that your mind has been obfuscated by the garbage of imperialist propaganda to think that North Korea is a failed state like capitalist Ghana. Luckily today we have the internet to help us all do snappy research to ease our ignorance so go and do some research on North Korea and come back and tell us if you think that North Korea cannot feed itself.
Now whether you like or appreciate it or not, Kwame Nkrumah with the help of socialists and communists, liberated Africa and the Blackman from centuries of slavery, colonialism and exploitation from capitalists. Kwame Nkrumah made it possible for your father to gain dignity in the world as a Blackman and to be educated. He created the grounds for even you yourself, as ungrateful as you are, to be educated - even if badly, as well.
Finally why, if as you say, Nkrumahs ideas have indeed failed, do your capitalist inclined Rawlings, Kufuors, Mahamas and Akuffo-Addos, trying so desperately to emulate those ideas for their survival? Why dont they abandon Nkrumahs ideas in the same way that they abandon each others meager development projects?

It is not the system capitalism that has failed in Africa but rather our corrupt leaders who have failed any system they use because of corruption and autocratic rule as Nkrumah practiced.

Let us not be fooled into ignoring the true motives and intentions of JJ's so called uprisings as the truth is evident upon reflection with wisdom and a just heart. It was nothing but a dubious plan and insidious agenda motivated by tribalism and hatred of the Akans . This is the greatest tragedy and the reason why the country can never develop, as long as the undercurrent of all political activity is the hatred and exclusion of everything Akan there can never be true unity and peace of mind . We now have generations of youth in absolute poverty who will never know what a job that can sustain a family is , brainwashed into thinking the perverse lies of this ndc are the right moral standards of the day, yes buga buga tactics designed to break the spirit of a free nation . They say we are only angry but the fact remains this was a tribal war still continuing against the Akans , you will never hear JJ mention the corrupt EWE such as woyome , segbefia and tsikata but rather any Ashanti public or private is the enemy and criminal and his follows will add drug barons . He will never see the evil corruption of his allies in this backstrabbing war against the Akans the northerners and other minorities such as the Gas. Without proof or the need to respect the law and human rights of the accused he will judge and execute innocent Akans into jail or death , even his long time traitor friend Mills was not good enough because he was Fanti and therefore not motivated enough to hate his brothers the Ashantis or npp. Forbes has put the mahamas in the list of being one of the most corrupt family in the country and Africa but JJ and the NDC are blind to this fact and obviously have succeeded in bribing our so called opposition NPP into compliance of the ongoing crimes . JJ , WHERE IS YOUR COUP NOW IN SWEEPING AWAY THIS CORRUPT GOVT ,is it because its now your ayigbe and pepeni who are now the one's stealing ?

I wonder why ignorant idiots like you arrogate to yourselves the right to speak for the Akans, and Akans who thought they knew better don't send you private mails advising you to desist from your foolhardy, ethnocentric crap since it tarnishes them too and tempts people like me to visit consequences of your folly on all and sundry, trokosi style, as the Old Testament sanctioned. The Fantis are not as stupid and ignorant as some of you Akans from the interior think. They recollect and always have in mind that the "Asante Agenda", just as in the past, and presently, is to plunder and loot them too, just as we saw under Kufuor. No Fanti needs JJ to hate Asantes, if they want too. Yes, only ignorant fools like you didn't know about how the Asantes destroyed Anomabu and how 1000s were killed and 1000s more enslaved. Even those who took refuge in the Cape Coast Castle were shared b/n them and the British and sold as slaves! Btw, the King of the Brongs led some of the most devastating raids on the Fantis, so when I write Asante here, I don't mean only those within the present Ash/R. I mean those from within the old Asante Kingdom.
And we know about the wars between the Asantes and the Akyems and how the Akyems were finally defeated and resettled as captives.
So, you jerk, when did you Akans discover brotherly love in your monolithic Akan Empire? Is it a Republic?
Only unbred renegades like you come here to spew stench you can't deal with.
Minorities! My foot! When did the Akan ethnic group become a majority of Ghanaians? Ignorant fool! From 44% to 47% doesn't make them a majority. Only shows that they need Family Planning more, as they are breeding faster than the national average!
Dzimapklavi! Stick to the issue next time, or you'd get a further revised version of "These Akans...."

Let me reiterate that practically all of the CPP's factories were set up in the 1960s. Many were hardly completed when the coup occurred and were abandoned after millions of £££sss were sunk into them, e.g, the Gold Refinery which was 95% completed. Those that started operations had just started operations for a year to three when the coup of 1966 occurred. Take the Garment, Vono bed and mattreses factories of the Workers Brigade for instance which were hardly in operation for 2 years. The Garment Factory was an instant success churning out well-packaged shirts just like the imported ones. I have to confess that some of had a tailor measuring us at home so that ours could be sewn to order/size. That's little privilege for the big sacrifice Papa was making accepting to work for newly independent Ghana, instead of mind his private business interests. The Vono bed factory was supplying those double-decker beds for the secondary schools in Ghana even in the 1970s.
If those factories were such bad things, the Western diplomats in Ghana would not have been alarmed and advised the NLC novices to stop deporting the mainly Eastern European technicians and engineers supervising the building and running those factories. Unfortunately, it was too late and they left on their own, anyway. That's how those factories were messed up later.
And now, what I wrote earlier.
My goodness! So outright capitalism with the crass primitive accumulation some of you call corruption is the new way, eh? Which came first? Capitalism or socialism?
I really don't know where you guys read your economic history of the West from, if any at all. Fact is, my reading of the Econ. History of Western Europe shows the State deeply involved in their devts. And books on the devt of the Asian Tigers had shown, by the 1980s, how their States were the major catalysts for their advancement! Had Western Govts failed to bring back the state in, as some scholars - Theda Skocpol, et al, e.g.,- had been advocating for years prior to the Credit Crunch, the economies of those countries would have collapsed.
Like you, I had people actually supervising the setting up of those industries. It wasn't an easy task operating new factories with freshly educated children of peasants and even stark illiterates without any history of industrial culture! Same goes for the state farms. There was bound to be serious teething problems, and there were in abundance. But some of those industries started making profits shortly after being set up! VALCO claimed it'd take them 7 years to turn a profit and so got a tax holiday for that period; and that's a strictly private enterprise! Never mind that they started making profits from the 1st year and still didn't pay any taxes!
Take the Kade Match Factory. The quality of the product was bad to begin with, so were the products of Japanese goods in the beginning. Anlo women nicknamed the match, "wu vi nam", meaning "kill a child for me", since by the time you managed to lit up to see what was wrong with your child, he/she would have been dead! Jump to the 1970s, these same matches were even being smuggled to Togo! The Factory couldn't even meet the demand in Ghana!
Anyway, don't think I shld spend more time on this. But let me tell you that Nkrumah didn't make any mistakes in choosing the path that he chose. Even the colonial power, the bastion of capitalism, was being led by the Labour Govt which proclaims socialism as its creed and was nationalising private enterprises at the time. All indicators showed that countries developed faster under direct state mobilisation of resources, as during wars. That's why Karl Marx wrote that the State is nothing but a committee for managing the whole affairs of the bourgeoisie. Problem is, we only have compradors as entrepreneurs in Africa. Buy and sell traders, and frontmen for foreign capital - that's all they are!

I just have to point out a single successful factory or business operated by the state somewhere and your universal claim collapses like a pack of cards! In logic, one premise being false invalidates the conclusion. I can inundate you with loads of such examples from various countries but let me restrict myself to Norway where I lived for over 10 years even though I had written earlier that some of the factories the CPP set up started making profits straight away, e.g., what became the Abbott Industries.
You can verify what I wrote be a simple google search.
Norsk Hydro is a state/private behemoth owning a number of industries from bauxite to oil and gas. The state has about 34% stake in it.
Statoil is a state-owned oil and gas company which is one of the major players in the world at the moment.
Narvesen is a state-owned tobacconist chain in Norway. Apparently the biggest such chain. You can even buy your favourite porno magazine there.
I need not go further.
The point which must be made and stressed that the CPP's plan, as given in even the 7 Yr Devt Plan, was for a mixed economy. Private enterprises were to play an important role too. The state getting involved in what were considered the preserve of private individuals in the liberal econ. text books was clearly realised to be crucial in even Britain during WW2. A number of industries were therefore nationalised. In America, Roosevelt tried to nationalise the steel industry but failed, in the face of stiff opposition by vested interests which went on to make a killing during the war.

I attempted reading this article until I got to paragraph 7 at which point it became evident that by his own obvious naivete, the writer had disqualified himself from being taken as a serious writer on politics, history or even current affairs.
This writer, who by the paltry substance of his article must either be less than 40 years old or otherwise a very illogical or grossly uneducated person, presumptuously assumes that Nkrumaists of today are what they are because they must have been poisoned by the misinformation fed them by their Nkrumaist fathers. What diabolical nonsense! Nothing could be further than the truth.
First of all, there is a great difference from children of people who supported Nkrumah or the CPP and a person who can aptly be described as an Nkrumaist. For your education, an Nkrumaist is a person who has ascended from the ranks of the mass supporters and ascribes to the further political application of the ideological and intellectual prescriptions of the Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
In this regard, there were/are many millions of people - running into billions of people across Ghana, Africa and the Black Diaspora who casually but staunchly 'support(ed)' and promote(d) the CPP and Nkrumahs ideas but in contrast, only a few can be described as Nkrumaists.
In fact one does not need to have 'been poisoned' by the misinformation of ones parents, nor does one need to be a supporter of Nkrumah or an Nkrumaist to know or understand the achievements of Nkrumah, what he stood for and what he was about. The man is probably the most famous and publicized Black man in world history - and this did not happen by chance, by propaganda or for nothing. Any Black man anywhere, who has not been stirred - even by curiosity, to research these overwhelming facts, remains at his/her own peril, doomed in the subjective darkness of slavery and oppression. One can only not know or, refuse to know the monumental substance and achievements of Nkrumah if one willfully chooses to cut ones nose to spite ones face or to live in abject self-denial - the preferred prescriptions of global imperialism for Africa.
Besides the above, Kwame Nkrumah was/is one of the most prolific writers of our time. No well educated or liberated or intelligent or well-meaning African can miss him on this score. His message pervades every aspect of the outstanding, belated and urgent obligations for African development. Very few serious writers on the subject of the African dilemma and renaissance can match the intellectual depth, the meticulous analysis and the indomitable value of Kwame Nkrumahs literary works. And here, Im not also considering African writers who engage in frivolous fictional works that 99% of the African population is too poor, hungry and ill to access.
How can any enlightened African - home and abroad, belittle and condemn into the petty ranks of historical nonentities such as Kufuor and Rawlings, the stupendous achievements of the man who finally broke the chains of 500 years of slavery and colonial tyranny of the Blackman? How? The very fact that Kwame Nkrumah ultimately ended centuries of undemocratic persecution of Black people by Europe and America, alone, makes him the greatest democrat of all time.

It was during Kufuor administration that Ghana became a middle income country due to the expanded economy with 32 billion GDP.
Bui Dam was built
Oil discovered
NHIS
NYEP
MASLOCK
GEORGE BUSH HIGHWAY
MASS COCOA SPRAYING
Free maternity health care
Free school lunch
Speed Railway system from Tema to Accra.
Mass Transportation system
Etc
All these was done without the opportunity that Nkrumah had with the money left to him believed to have been 200 million pounds in 1957.
President Kufuor came to meet a bankcrupt country with inflation at 42 percent, interest rate hovering around 30 percent, three days oil supply, poorest rate of citizen at 39 percent and unemployment rate at 48 percent.
When he left in 2009, inflation has come down to 18 percent, interest rate came down to 22 percent, the poorest rate came down to 28 percent, unemployment rate reduced to 23 percent etc.

You see, Mr Cardinal, all the projects you mentioned which you ascribe to former President Kufuor and his govt are badly rehashed ambitious projects from the 1st Republic. In fact most of them were projects which had been used to demonize and overthrow Nkrumah by Kufuors political forbears, the United Party, as wasteful projects. The Bui dam in particular was in an advanced state of development by the Chinese when Nkrumah was overthrown in 1966. The Afrifa, Busia, Kotoka clique then threw out the Chinese engineers from Ghana and sold the turbines to their slave masters. Please dont ask me where the returns went to. Perhaps Kufuor may know.
I admit that Kufuor is way way better than Rawlings who just simply didnt know what he was about. His recent outburst about Kufuor mishandling the Cedi exposed the fact that we allowed a complete illiterate to run this country for 20 whole years. However, on the other hand all this gibberish you put out about inflation and all that does not wash with me. Only God knows how they collect their data in a country where graduates cannot peak or write common English. Those statistics are just fanciful figures churned out by idle-minded, badly paid and inept economists and statisticians sitting in air-conditioned offices in a laughably described middle-income country, where over 80% of the population do not have access to the most basic hygienic toilets, potable water and electricity. Look we are joking in this country.
As for that bit about Kufuor raising the GDP, if you consider that a multiple-resource rich country like Ghana can only achieve what is probably less than what some single private foreign investors are making in this country exploiting only one resource, then I cannot for the life of me say that Kufuor did marvelously well. Remember, what I said was that the string of hopeless govts after Nkrumah have not achieved any meaningful or significant development. Remember, after all said and done, this is Kwame Nkrumahs Ghana. We aim high.
Then please please please dont ever mention this thing in public again about the colonialists leaving 200 million pounds for Nkrumah. You will only end up betraying your ignorance and exposing yourself as an idiot. Can you ever in your wildest fantasies imagine tyrannical oppressive colonialists leaving even 100 pounds for 'stupid ignorant African natives'? 1 - 1=
Why, Cardinal, you think the colonialists were here as tourists or on an excursion or what? We are even lucky. In some of our sister-oppressed countries, they took away pens, pencils, notepads, desks and even blew up entire roads to teach the flippant natives a lesson for their insolence in demanding independence, freedom and democracy.

So are you telling me in Mahama says he intends to build an international airport for Ho but did nothing and if the next government from a different party comes and build an international airport at HO Mahama should be credited?
You really sound like the dunderhead I thought you are to even dispute that Nkrumah did not assume the Presidency with a lot of money. I know you moron don't even know that Nkrumah was head of government from 1951 before becoming the Prime Minister in 1957 and was helped to save money by the Colonialist. You are the first idiot to deny this fact and you seem an economic illiterate not to know the importance and meaning of GDP, I don't blame you. Kuffour in eight years with a HIPC country achieved more than what Nkrumah who built white elephant factories without thinking about how to provide materials for production.
You will still deny the fact that by 1964, most of his industries like other things he did were failing.

There is this hype that Ku4 increased the GDP within a short span of time to the mathematical impossible level which some have been trumpeting about. He didn't! My good friend prof. Mike Gyamerah had shown through mathematical calculation that such a thing is impossible, given the growth rate Ghana was growing under KU4. Only those who are mathematical challenged and don't understand how such things work out believe the hype and are spreading it.
All that they had done was to re-compute the GDP of Ghana, taking into account the hidden huge value from the informal sector and other sources to compute a new GDP for Ghana. The NDC also did one recently and claiming to put Ghana into a lower Middle Income status. Same thing was done recently in Nigeria, putting the Nigeria economy as the biggest in Africa, surpassing S. Africa! Much of the value the NPP regime computed was generated during the PNDC/NDC years. I just hope all of them are not just cooking up the figures, since there is so much talk about nothing on the ground to show for it.

Another popular lie these Matemeho people have been using as propaganda against Nkrumah is the lie that the British left Nkrumah and the CPP over £200m in reserves. This is far from the truth but despite many refutations, recently at that lectures at the Central Univ., they continue to repeat it
Nkrumah and the CPP actually accumulated that reserve b/n 1953 and 1957. What the CPP got after the disbandment of the West Africa Produce Board to form the Cocoa Marketing Board was a paltry £19m! Nigeria got even less; a mere £9m! It is common knowledge that the UK govt even wanted Nkrumah to donate that money to their War Reconstruction effort!
What happened was that the new CPP regime accepted the infamous "anchor of safety" advice to save the windfall in commodity prices due to the Korean War, instead of increasing cocoa prices and spending the rest on the accelerated devt projs then initiated. Well, the result was the rise of the NLM, when those who had just lost elections took advantage of the discontent of the farmers to promote their lost cause.
This true facts need to be publicised with the records by true supporters of the Nkrumahist agenda to stop these liars!

WAS THE 200 MILLION COLLECTED FROM THE CPP DUES PAYING MEMBERS?
NKRUMAH WAS MADE HEAD OF GOVERNMENT IN 1951 AND THIS MONEY WAS THE SAVINGS FROM THE HARD WORKING AKANS COCOA FARMS AND GOLD.
Nkrumah in 1957 with 200 million pounds was a lot of money and it is true that he had over 200 million pounds to spend which he finished spending in 1963.

The difference is that the CPP regime saved that money at great cost to itself and, I might say, Ghanaians. It delayed Ghana's indep even.
And stopped that nonsense about Akan cocoa farmers. Akans are not the only people who do cocoa farming in Ghana. In fact, they didn't even start it. That credit must go to the Krobos. Polly Hill's The Migrant Cocoa Farmers of Southern Ghana is there to tell all who was who in cocoa farming up to the 1960s. And Frimpong Ansah's The Vampire State has all the statistics from the export of the first few pounds of cocoa beans and the regional productions covering decades. At a time, the VR was the 3rd largest regional producer of cocoa and the major farmers in those areas were also migrants: Ewes and Krobos!
BTW, the £200m couldn't even pay for the Akosombo Dam, not to mention the Tema Harbour and Township that were started in the late '50s as part of the bauxite project that got derailed.
And the money wasn't frittered away as we see these days. it was invested in the huge infrastructural gain Ghana made and those factories present govts are still selling off at great profit to themselves, frontmen and cronies!

There are irrefutable facts all over Ghana to dispute every single issue raised in this write-up.
The other fact is that people simply have refused to read. A further step taken by the author and by many of the commentators here on this forum in terms of a critical perusal of Ghana's/Gold Coast's political history up to the present would have produced a more-informed write-up.
Again, the facts are all there. You have reliably given them some here. I hope commentators take the time to read them. I may add more in some of my future essays on Ghanaweb.
Thanks for educating Prempeh Forson, the author, and many of the commentators here. In fact, his arguments will not stand anywhere excpet, perhaps, Ghanaweb. Your arguments here have rendered this write-up intellctual impotent.
Thanks.

Forson naivety and analysis is devoid of the depth of a balance analyst or perhaps has a limited education which blights his scope to to deal with the subject on Nkrumaism.
Tilapia must have enlightened him with his objective and critical reasoning on the subject and if I were him I will learn from his observation.
Nkrumaism is virtually becoming the clarion call for all progressive African intellectuals and blacks all over the world.
His message is first hand and can be found in his literals works which is a reference point to all serious analysis on the African problems and the role of colonialism and Neo colonialism which he has aptly exposed for what they are worth.

Tilapia are you a Volta catch or China import? your Propaganda is worse than those in Nkrumah's days. Whatever Nkrumah wrote was purely his belief and not necessarily based on research and scientific proof. Nkrumah DID NOT END SLAVE TRADE. Slave trade ended long before he left his post as pupil teacher in Achimota to head to the States to study. Nkrumah only returned to participate in an independence struggle that was already on and nearly won. Stop your rumbling and throwing about of hollow words. Take a hint from the writer and end your useless hero worship.....its not even attractive anymore. Times of changed. People around the world do not give dime about Nkrumah and who he was. The freedom fighter generation is gone. In South Africa new voters do not even know what existed before Mandela became president.

You will also appreciate that the unprogressive UP colluded with the colonialist against their own country just because of unbridled lust for power to make Nkrumah and his government unpopular. This is the curse of the opposition which will hang around their neck like the proverbial albatross.

Tilapia,
You are absolutely right! I didn't pick anything useful or new in the article except the usual stock in trade slanted views from that particular source. So much distortions and skewed views, with the usual tribal slant thrown in, like this one.
"The coup makers had executed or murdered Acheampong, Afrifa, High Court Judges and several others accused of corruption. The new youngsters in town would stop at nothing to crush anyone they perceived to be corrupt. Some of them vowed to end the economic hegemony of certain tribes – especially the Ashantis - and true to their words they pounced on them and destroyed their businesses, seized their assets, jailed some of them, chased out a good number of them and killed those who were not lucky to escape. Piece by piece they tore down both state and private companies and brought to an end all industrial efforts in the country."
Now, anyone not aware would have thought Acheampong and Afrifa were killed during the PNDC era after 31st Dec, 1981. Why mixed up events from 1979 and after January 1982?
And who swore to "end the economic hegemony of certain tribes -especially Asantes...."? Which other tribes? What econ. hegemony to even speak of? Where was that hegemony being exercised? Esp. that of Asantes? Buying and selling and indulging in kalabule? Farming? Fishing? What? Were the Asantes all over Ghana doing that? In the VR too? In the CR and G/A too? I was under the impression the Kwahus were the people noted most for their commercial activities in Accra up to the 1980s. And they were the ones venturing into manufacturing some goods like building materials but they were not alone. One can point to people from among the Ewes the Prempehs and the ilks often accuse of swearing to destroy Asante businesses. I didn't know Asantes to be exercising any econ. hegemony in Ghana when I left Ghana for the first time in 1981.
To claim that "all industrial efforts" were brought to a halt in the country is of course a grotesque exaggeration. To claim that such a thing happened due to a deliberate persecution of some people, esp. Asantes, is simply a gross distortion and a blatant lie which cannot stand any even a cursorily enquiry/rsearch! Are we supposed to take such vacuous claims seriously?!
Pathetic write-up in many aspects! Aspects of merit like most people are compromised by corruption have been said on this forum many times. I myself devoted a while article to that.

Hahahahaha; Akuffo Morning Cloud addo: A transformational leader for the Narcotic Peoples Party. Still, I doubt it. If they are so so so good why did they lose the elections to Prof Mills and Mahama?. Dont deceive yourselves, Ghanaians know you more than you know yourselves. You keep deceiving yourselves in your own circles and when you lose elections on your merit, you find it difficult to accept.
I have been in Ghana and through the Kuffuor period - the HIPIC days. I now enjoy single spine salary starting from Mills time my salary has gone up two-fold.
Do you remember Amoateng an NPP MP and financier was arrested in the US for doing cocaine during Kuffuor time? Have you heard of Anim of the Le Baron hotel another financier of NPP who has just been arrested in the UK for doing heroin and money laundering? Kuffuor's Cocaine and money laundering period was to you blissful.
Akuffo addo held Ghana hostage for 8 months at the supreme court because Ghanaians did not vote for him. That do you is high democrat's and human right lawyer achievements. The seeds of another NPP loss have already been solidly sewn. He had gone to hire an US branding company to clean his image. Yet still he is doomed to lose already.
Those points you carefully avoided discussion in your essay are the very items that make NPP unattractive to many in Ghana.
Sometimes I really get so so amazed at the posturing of NPP in Ghana. A lot of recklessness and wishful thinking. Dis-regarding the fact that information is very fluent in this era and many more people in Ghana has become more politically discerning. Self-conceit; as if all Ghanaians are leaving in a very small cottage deep in the very heart of a cocoa plantation in some bush country somewhere while only the NPP activists and communicators are living in the modern world in the diaspora and big cities.
Please remember more than 60% of Ghanaians have been to a sort of school and many more than that proportion listen to political discussions daily.
Ghanaians can see a whitewashed pig when they see one. No american branding company can sell a whitewashed Ghanaian to Ghanaians.

David Anim started his criminal empire long before Ken Agyapong left his taxi and "drug dropping" business like most taxi drivers in Detroit, Chigaco, New Jersey and New York were doing in the mid 80s throughout the 90s in the US. David Anim has been doing favours for many in the NPP hierarchy as far back as 1990. David Anim was the owner of one of the most lucrative shipping agencies by an African in Amsterdam called Animco from the 80s till 2000 when he went home to use Ghana as a haven for his criminal activities. He felt very confidence and protected by the NPP government and believe me, if it had not been the involvement of the British anti narcotics agencies he would never have been jailed in Ghana in the early 2000. David Anim had this fear and hatred of the PNDC due to some experiences he encountered in the early 90s. Therefore he waited till the party he had invested so much in, was in power before moving his drug trafficking operation headquarters from south America (Surinam, Guyana and Brazil) to Ghana in the late 2000 .

Forson, you were unfair by having just one sentence your Busia section, "The transitional military government under Afrifa gave way to democratic rule but that lasted for only 2 years under Busia." The rest, you just lambasted Acheampong, Rawlings, Mills and Mahama.
Haa, you were so much in hurry to 'destroy' you even missed Pres Hilla Limman!
True, they all had their failings but they had their successes as well. Kuffour was a good president but he was horrible as well in not keep the tap on on for instance narcotics and smuggling. It was during his time Ghana became a gateway for transnational organized transfer of everything illicit.
Remember the Merchant Bank saga itself started in his time. The 'sickness' now called Judgment Debt was an affliction which is traced to the Kuffour times. Remember the trouble with the oil sector today started when the Kuffour administration sold us Ghanaians out via his cronies in the EO [or is it EI, whatever] company housed in Texas? More, men!
We cannot balance what Nkrumah did for Ghana with Kuffour's. Yes, Nkrumah had his failings but Forson don't be a baby. Read, do your research. It will be a pitiful comparison to pit Nkrumah and Busia [combined] with Nkrumah alone, let alone with Rawlings.
With all his faults, at least give Nkrumah some credit, even for little mercies like the Akosombo Dam, Tema City, the "1963 Secondary Schools" in the North, etc.

Nkrumah in the period of 1957 to 1966 implemented programs that put Ghana's development even ahead of Malaysia. Today the sons and daughters behind those who stop and reversed Ghana's great development still shamelessly defend their fathers sabotage against Ghana's development. This writer should be ashamed of himself for seeking to distort history. Who is peddling falsehood here? Nkrumah began with Universal Education, NOT FREE education. That did not start until about 1964! It was called "Tuition Free." We were paying 4 shillings a month in middle school until I went to secondary school after Common Entrance in Form 3. Secondary school was not free either, otherwise why were there bursaries, government and Cocoa Marketing Board Scholarships, etc, for bright students?
Some of us were kicked out of school for "school fees" until we won Cocoa Marketing Board scholarships in Form 2.
The author was absolutely right. Kwame Nkrumah had ideas initially, but he lost his bearings completely with his obsession with becoming the first president of a United states of Africa. We have to be honest about our past and even the present mess, otherwise were are not going anywhere as a nation!

My friend you started very well by touching on characters instituted Ghana today. But you unfairly proceeded in to the mainstream due to your bigotry and partisanship. Some where along the line, you lie about certain prevailing factors and try to paint President Kufuor and his "wawawa" team as if they were pure and clean from corruption and other social vices injected in to our country. Let give credit to where it due. Because of time, I will just pick point a few things. To say Dr. Nkrumah had his implementation wrong means you are not fully aware of the state of affairs at the time. Dr. Nkrumah was socialist and capitalism was not an ideal economic practice for Ghana so to speak looking at individual standard in terms of money and education wise. You know how Dr. Nkrumah tone between soviet union and America because of his economic standard. Dr. Nkrumah perform creditably well than any successive government today. In 2000, we all rally behind Kufuor's positive change after joining forces with the NPP to mount anti-VAT demonstration "KUMIPREKO" against the NDC government. We exhibited our truth desire for positive change during the december 7 2000 general election when we exercise our franchise right in favour of the NPP. Every one who followed politics keenly will know that Dec. 7 2000 election was a major turning point for Ghana to excel. The word cocoa price was stable and encouraging, The price of gold saw increase in the world market, stabilization of the cedi were among other things. But what Kufuor did was that he quickly replace Rawlings poverty alleviation programme with his Presidential initiative which disappeared in no time after renovating his private house with Ghana's money. Not to talk about Hotel "de wawawa". Ghana's population has seen growth from Nkrumah time to Rawlings time likewise education and Ghanaians can also boast of rich men. So the need to change from Nkumah's socialism to capitalism. Rawlings in his wisdom realize how suicidal it will be for Ghanaians to adopt capitalism fully, because capitalism is very expensive and need adherence to law. So he combine the two in which the ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods are not only in the hands of the government, but both the government and the individuals. This gave rise to the public sector which help the economy to see boast. But what Kufuor did? He thrown away socialism and go in to complete capitalism without creating enabling environment for public sector to flourish. Instead, he globe trout telling Ghanaians to come and invest in their country. Kufuor excel on this grounds by attracting more investors in to the country but it also gave birth to another disaster. Exploitation and corruption since there was little adherence to law and some companies were dubiously establish. Under Kufuor's government, we saw the continuation of the sale of state own companies which NPP forth against when in opposition. Real hardship and unemployment smitten every one which force the youth to go in to "sakawa". Ghana under Rawlings was declared gateway to west Africa. And under Kufuor, it was gateway to cocaine deals in which NPP MP for nkronza was arrested and jailed in the United states. I wouldn't like to go in to Ghana@50 celebration and the sales of state cars and houses to NPP members. Because that will lead me to the case of Tobinco and Jake Obetsebe Lamptey's case of conflict of interest. Not forgotten Richard Annane's flirtatious behaviour with a white lady that led to the birth of a son at the expense of Ghana coffers and the collapsing of the Ghana airways. Don't forget the NTC loan. Now, kufuor couldn't maintain the cedi as its depreciated against the dollar and he quickly denominate the cedi and tell Ghanaians that $1.00 is equivalent to GHC 1.00 which was 10,000.00 old Ghana cedis compare to 6,000.00 old Ghana cedis to $1.00. when he took office. All this things added to create the hardship we are going through now. There are more to talk about like NPP back bone peace Fm that gave birth to Kwaku bonsom, The oil deals, The dead of Bob Santo come to mind, Yana, Police brutality. There are more but the bottom line is that politician has failed Ghana. Don't forget "all die be die" in the 2012 campaign. God Bless Ghana.

I was very keen on reading this article as the writer begin his case adn articulation very well. It makes one want to read on and on. Indeed the writer has a point in a number of his ariculations, not all are to taken as a whole, since some circumstances made are so related to other events. That said, a very good written peice in a whole, with the only issue being that, the article is yet again a partisan oriented one. He tends to make readers see he is typical NPP and not NDC or CPP.
