First of all, this is the type of material that the likes of myself want to read. English is perfect, presentation , tick and analysis also on point. Brilliant. Now lets disagree that Ghana may not have the kind of impact we had in 2010. Please make note of the fact that in 2010, the confidence of the BS rose in the course of the tournament, this time around the BS have confidence even before playing our first group game. This confidence emanates from our last performance in 2010 and also due to the fact that we now have a better team than we had in 2010. Essien ,Djan, KPB,K. Asamoah, Dede, Muntari, unlike in 2010, know that they can get to the 1/4s and beyond. They will carry the rest with them and wont be fazed by any team in the world. I however do agree with you that Ghana did not face a player of the caliber of Ronaldo at he group stage in 2010, but then Ronaldo does not feature very well for his country as he does for his club, the simple reason being that Portugal do not possess the type of quality players that play with Ronaldo at club level. If KA is smart enough and puts in place a detailed plan to contain Ronaldo on the day, we could beat Portugal. I also share you point that K. Asamoah does not positively influence a game from the deep lying left back position that he has been playing of late. With his class, power, natural attributes and a good left footed shot, we need him a bit more central and in a more advanced position from where he can hurt the opposition. If these issues can be redressed competently, Ghana will replicate our performance from 2010 and beyond, it does not matter who is in our group. So, I dare say, we will do it.

The writer had a hidden agenda or ax to grind with Akwesi Appiah if not why make a statement like this "The second major reason why Ghana may struggle to match their performance of four years ago is the imbalance of their side and the supposed mismanagement of coach Kwesi Appiah."
What has coach Akwesi Appiah has mismanaged? Look I was around in 1990 when Cameroon played Argentine the question everyone was asking Cameroon coach how is he going to contain Diego Armando Maradona Franco his answer was simple we are here to play Argentine and not play Diego Armando Maradona Franco. Ghana is here to play Portugal and not to play Cristiano Ronaldo. It would be a mistake to focus on Cristiano Ronaldo. I see 2014 the same as 2006 we had a world cup winner and Fifa so-called ranking rated two European teams and North American everyone was counting on Italy and the Czech Republic to get out of the group the same is playing here I would not be surprise that Ghana and USA get out of this group.

Akwesi Appiah has not mismanaged anything he has taken his goalkeeper trainer advice and used the goalkeeper the trainer had recommended like Donald Rumsfeld said you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want to have.

Wow Santa! I could not believe I was reading this article on Ghanaweb. The English is perfect as you say. Grammar, punctuation, everything spot on. I had to scroll to the top to check whether it was a Ghanaweb journalist that wrote the article, or whether they stole it from another website.Wow! Excellent article.
On the face of it, I have to agree with the writer. If you look at it purely from factual and statistical standpoint, the writer is right. A lot of the people here disagreeing with the writer are fueled by optimism. As an example, at my workplace, we have all put in our predictions, and most of the others so not have Ghana performing very well, (but they have their own countries performing well when stats suggests otherwise!). This is also why most Ghanaians have Germany and Ghana going through, instead of Portugal and Ghana (Germany based on facts and statistics, Ghana on optimism).
The writer is also 100% spot on when he says the USA will be, for lack of a better word, "wild". The Ghana-USA match is a head to head to be in pole position to take advantage of any slip up, no matter how minor, from Germany and Portugal.
One thing the writer ignored is tournaent craft and luck. Sometimes in a tournament, you need a bit of luck to progress. The opponent hits the bar instead of scoring, you get a penalty that was 50-50, you have a goal against you incorrectly ruled off for offside or vice versa. In the last world cup, Suarez had luck by having Gyan miss a penalty that would have been the last kick of the game had it gone in. So yes, the optimism is justified - a good start against USA, run of results in our favour in other games and a bit of luck, I believe we will make it out of the group stages. We should hopefully be able to then get past anyone from Group H that comes our way (most probably Belgium)

The writer of this article has shown that he is a typical Ghanaian. He lacks an analytical mind. Why make a reference to a friendly match? The writer also stated that, "While Ghana’s struggles against Germany, Italy and Brazil in World Cups past do not bode well for their matchups against these two European heavyweights". What is the writer talking about? Ghana lost narrowly to Germany and Italy after very competitive group stage matches. Based on those two matches,we lost because we were not lucky. We were not outplayed.

This is no objective analysis it is from a lying spirit intending to dampen the confidence of players and country. There are lies all over this article, was he really fair to our team? This is what white man has always done always thinking that African is a no good meanwhile their teams are equally not perfect and have weaknesses. We like Jesus may come from Nazareth, let them say what good thing can come from Nazareth and we will tell them by the power of GOd, a nazarene was made king of Kings and lord of Lords. Hence like Shakira said, in Jesus name we too say this is the time for Africa. Suarez stole our glory but this time,he will be no where to be found he will go home in the first round while Ghana by the power of God and the determination of the players sore and sore even through the group stage to the next stage and beyond. Dont be afriad people dont listen to this evil spirit we know who are blackstars are. If nothing at all we played a team A netherland team with our team B and they really struggled against us, only beat us by one goal. HE talked about Akaminko but is it not true that Boye and Jonathan are our best central defenders? so u see he is a lying spirit and he speaks by the devil who is a liar and not of the truth.

Swift exit it will befor Kwasi, the Black Stars and Ghana. The exit will be as swift as the coach was swift in gleefully gathering an 18-carat gold award, a doctorate degree and a Swag awards. All that while he dilly-dallied in the dressing room by, for example, over-keeping faith with a bench-tied Dauda instead of regularly playing Kwarasey and building goal -keeper plus back-four team that can effectively communicate. The exit'll be further expedited for lack of a strong back-room technical advisory team (i.e. some coaches have the likes of Vogt as goal-keeper trainer, we have who?). Unlike 2010, Ghana will miss the sheer, mean, grittiness of Olele and Mensah (John the Rock) and that little fella but magical stopper and ball- distributor whose name I can't recall. These men formed the spine leading from goal 2 attack
Their miss is not Kwasi's doing. What he has done is not to build a team and strategy as would compensate for the loss of those mean. Instead of building such a team and forming such a strategy, our Kwasi spent time gleefully collecting awards and negotiating a new contract.
