Or, you want conditions in the polys to be improved? They are striking cos of that, you know? Indeed, cancelling those allowances shall pave the way to improve the conditions in the tertiary insts; yes for a sane system to acquire books, teaching aids, equipment, etc. for the libraries and labs, as i sketched in my article on the subject. Nowhere in the civilised world are such things acquired for individual lecturers at public expense.
BTW, UTAG is demanding restoration of same allowances. Perhaps, reason is beginning to sink into their sterile consciences and so haven't called a strike. I am aware that some of the junior lecturers agree with my views. I joked about it with some lecturer friends at Legon in 2003, and a junior lecturer from KNUST sent me a private mail expressing his concerns. It appears the snr. lecturers are the pillars behind cajoling both jnr lecturers and govt to continue with the madness!
It must be cured somehow.

All teachers must unite and fight together. The day before yesterday, it was UTAG, followed by NAGRAT, then by GNAT and now by POTAG. Why?
Govt cannot be attending to same 'professionals' in bits and bytes like that.
