  Politics require having clear ideas and discipline application. This absurd, desperate proportional representation mooted by the IEA will kill the objectives of the democratic system we have had since 1957. A system where opponents are blended together at the highest echelons of power is logically crisscrossed with cracks...its collapse would be only a matter of time. The state will collapse in no time.   I agree with you Kofi only that the story wrongly represented what the IEA is doing. Indeed, the IEA is consulting stakeholders on the WTA and the IEA only mentioned some of the proposals that some of the stakeholders had suggested. The IEA is far from concluding the consultation process and cannot be making recommendations at this point in time. What you read on Ghanaweb are the views of the stakeholders and not that of the IEA and those views are not final. Let's keep the debate ongoing. I enjoyed every bit of your article and because I have personally shared similar concerns with the group. But don't let us rubbish the activities of the group because what the consultations the outcomes of the consultations they are having are being shared with us and so we can second guess what the final outcomes will be. Meanwhile, articles like yours would inform the positions of stakeholders who are yet to be consulted. Let's keep thinking and sharing the views. No insults from the comments yet and I hope it will remain so.

They have lost touch with reality and are like Alice in Wonderland. Even those leading the crusade makes it more bizarre and nobody should take them serious. Should there be a change of government tomorrow, the IEA will change its tune

  Ever since the NPP lost two elections in a row, the governance of this country has been treated by some section of society as having fallen into some alien hands. IWhen the NPP was in power, nobody questioned the very basis of our democratic and constitutional dispensation. There is currently a feeling that the economy is in turmoil because the management is in the 'wrong' hands, and that this should not be allowed to happen ever again.
  
  Admittedly, the current administration has demonstrated some stunning failures! It is also true that the effort to discredit where there are successes, has been relentless. So this extreme competitiveness in our local politics is what should be addressed as a temporary unintended consequence of our practices under the current constitution. It does not call for a dramatic overhaul of the system after such a short time of less than 25 years! So what is required is to use social engineers and institutions to smooth the rough edges as we soldier on and perfect or rather improve on the practice of the current dispensation.
  
  So Kofi, I agree with you that the IEA effort is amateurish and lack depth in their thinking process. We have plenty of work to do, as typified by the incompetences of the current government, but the idea of coalition government is definitely not the solution.

  I started reading your articles just before the 2012 election. I have come to understand that you are not like those others who insult without making any meaningful contribution to our nation building. I just admire your non-partisan approach in the course of articulating your point.
  Coming back to the topic in question, I had just read what Prof. Kwasi Botchway said when the WTA Advisory Committee visited him before I read your piece. I was amazed as to why the Prof. will buy into this dangerous politically motivated idea. Is he telling Ghanaians that he has forgotten what happened when Arkaah was the Vice-president during Rawlings` first term as president?
  
  In my opinion you have proved yourself that you understand politics. Just take Israel for example and you will know that coalition government is not what Ghana needs. Political parties should understand that democracy is not war. When people begin to believe in themselves alone that they are the ordained rulers and for that matter anybody else is not capable that is where we experience what we are experiencing now. It happened during Nkrumah`s regime. Most of the Civil society groups behind this so called WTA issue are known for their political affiliations. Who doesn`t where the Chairman of the Advisory Committee belong.

  We rejected Union government long time ago so why should we embrace this proposal. We want single point of accountability and responsibility. We should be able to assign success and failures to a source. We cannot have free for all government where everybody bears the responsibility for failure brought about by the incompetence of some few. We need to be able to measure performance of a party and a government so that we can know which party to retain in power.We shall not stand for any Union government in Ghana. We say no to a government where everybody participates but nobody takes responsibility. When your party wins you rule and when your party loses you wait. That is fair.
