as could be observed on occasion of the recent presidential gift to the House of Chiefs, is that the chieftaincy's duties and rights are not clearly ordained by WRITTEN laws.
It is an institution functioning often in parallel to the official administration, but in case of conflicts and investigations, they can refer to nebulous "oral traditions" and a large crowd of subordinates and dependents to protect them.
If one lives in a kind and wise chief's chiefdom, then it's good luck, if one lives "under" a corrupt chief, the whole district suffers.
I hope the government keeps both watchful eyes on this situation and helps the well-meaning and brave residents to solve it right now.
I hope DCE Madam Vivian Konko and the honourable assembly members step in at once with all resolve.

THIS CAN NEVER BE TRUE. JIRAPA IS THE MOST POLICED DISTRICT IN THE UPPER WEST REGION. WE SEE THEM EVERY NIGHT AT JIRAPA WITH THEIR VEHICLE WHILE OTHERS WALK IN TOWN TILL DAY BREAK. WE ALWAYS SEE THEM PATROLING IN THE VILLA ... read full comment

Regular policing does not mean strengthening of security?.Why then a woman was threatened to that extend.It is to say that the said woman didn't know the suspects?.The fact is that criminals who are arrested by the police are seen around the following day who eventually become treat to such people.Those who know and live within the terrain will best testify to the article published. This is a gud call by Mr. MUHAMMED because i witnessed the stealing of a friend's save from his bedroom at about 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Jirapa about three weeks ago. It was then left in an uncompleted building behind his house. So, it's really disheartenning to hear some of these. Therefore, the DCE shd act NOW !!!!!!!!
