First I must express my profound gratitude to you for listening to the voices of the masses and confess your sins accordingly, in a disguised way though, and have also humbly drop that unmeritorious prefix from your name. Attaboy! You see deception is more dangerous than ethnocentricity as you erroneously tried to tag me with the later in your last essay which precedes this brilliant one. I hope your fans would welcome this humble gesture of yours in good faith. By the way, I enjoyed reading this essay except the later part where you probably misunderstood Paa Kwesi Ndoom, the real DOCTOR. Cleaning our immediate surroundings , as you will agree with me, became a household chore since the school days of Adam and Eve but Dr. Ndoom's lamentation borders on the act of the taxpayer descending into big gutters in public places to clean up in a rich country like Ghana where free monies are given to people to plant trees on a desert in a dry season and, also, in a better Ghana today where a whooping 7 million new Ghana cedis vanish into unknown pockets at the National Service Secretariat every month. We cannot be idiots, maaan!

Mr. Figure-Out, I was also pleasantly relieved when I saw that "Dr"(?!?) SAS has finally seen reason and dropped the "offending" epithet. But his response shows that "onnte gyae" (is that the correct spelling?).
I have realised that SAS has called himself "Dr" since he graduated (last year or so) and has so vociferously defended his use of that appellate that he cannot now go back and stop addressing himself as such. It will even be more embarrassing than his continued use of it. He is in a double bind and I pity him for that but it is the result of his own pursuit of vanity - pure and simple. It is only vanity that makes him seek to raise himself above others on ghanaweb by addressing himself as "Dr" and going on so much about his personal achievements. Of course, he won't agree with this assessment but the overwhelming evidence on ghanaweb from commentators, most of them from the US, is that SAS, should really not be addressing himself as "Dr". He is the only one, or in the tiny minority of citizens, who thinks he should.
Now, he is asking people to repent of their sins. But he will never tell himself to repent of his own self-indulgence, boastfulness and wanton pride which he, obviously, doesn't see as sins even if he "humbly" admits that he is not above sin.
I think we must be proud of ourselves, assert ourselves but still be mindful of a little dose of true humility before others. It is a Christian virtue which is, actually, not a monopoly of Christianity!!!
On the present piece itself, I will say that SAS misunderstood Nduom. Even if people should be mindful of the things they do, often, in society, they will require leadership to do even the things they know they have to do. Government must provide the right sanitary conditions for the people as well as "force" them to do what is right for themselves. A government that doesn't do these, especially in a developing country where we are still learning things, can be accused of dereliction of its proper duties. This statement has nothing to do with NDC or NPP but with any government worth its salt.
Finally, two factual errors in SAS's piece:
1. Genesis 5:5 does not say anything about the Lord seeing the wickedness of the human race. It rather talks about the days that Adam lived - 930! I think this is so in all versions of the Bible even though I haven't checked the original Greek version or the Vulgate translation.
2. Lance Armstrong never won ten Les Tours de France. He won a record 7. Nobody has won le Tour ten times.
Or, am I also wrong? I will accept my faults...

You simply don't like them, but a thousand years from now, your descendants will probably come to appreciate them if they evolve to be better than you.

SAS, I don't know you other than from what you write on ghanaweb. You can be a great guy outside of ghanaweb but that doesn't concern me here. I judge you SOLELY on what you write on ghanaweb and how you project yourself here. I cannot judge you from the things that I don't know about you. That will be unfair.
The tags I attach to you are based on what I get from what you project of yourself on ghanaweb. Of course, I get other things too from that. For instance, I know that you vehemently detest ethnocentrism in any form in our country. This is something many of us admire you for. And no matter what any of us think of you, I don't think anybody should try to undermine you or bring you down at your workplace or with your employers. That is also wrong. Your political views and the party you support are also things you have a right to which no one can fault you for.
But for those of us who hold humility as a cardinal virtue, you come off, from your articles, as not exhibiting that trait. That is simply the fact. I trust that I know the difference between exuding confidence in oneself and just showing off to others. I am a Ghanaian like you (born before independence) and know my fellow Ghanaian well. You are not the only one with that trait on ghanaweb that some of us detest. Never forget that people see things and come to their own conclusions.
I read your articles and I will continue reading them but I still need to see you as a truly humble person.

Understand what Teacher is conveying without forcing him to recount your so-called redeeming qualities.
Suppose a man or woman walks to you in impeccably white attire save for a thumb size blemish, your eyes will be drawn to that 0.00001% blemish and not the 99.999% perfection. That is the nature of the human psyche.
As imperfect as we all are, we strive to bring out the best in each other. That is why, to a large extent, we focus on people's vices rather than their virtues, to get them to become better than they are.
That is the crux of Teacher's comment. In this case, Teacher has been generous recounting some of your “redeeming qualities” while saying you can do better, still. What more do you want from him? Get over yourself.

SAS, there's no need for me to provide you of a list. This is not a criminal investigation and what I complain about you are not crimes...
But, more importantly, you obviously have a different understanding of humility than many of us here on this forum. I am not the only one making these claims about you. If I provide you with a list, you will argue that these are not signs of pride and "horn blowing" because it appears you genuinely don't know they are. If you did, you wouldn't be "committing" them in the first place.
Start on the path of humility by talking less about yourself and your achievements. And summon the courage to stop addressing yourself "Dr" on a forum like this which is meant for Ghanaians from all walks of life wherever they may be. It is this essential ghananainness that brings us all here, not our qualifications, possessions or personal achievements.
There's no need for you to be more interested in the positive things I say about you than the less positive ones. It is the latter, when they are well meant (which is why I try never to insult you), that you learn more from.

A list will help me to reform and help others to understand. But you have no list to provide because nothing I have said or written will support the idea that I am arrogant and pompous, but I will help you with a list that may have spooked you:
1. You agree that I have a doctoral degree in law but you don't agree that I can use the honorarium of "doctor". Meanwhile you don't have any problem if others use it.
2. You don't agree with any of my religious views: my designation of the Bible as a fine book of literature and fiction and my lampooning of superstition and illogic.
3. You don't agree with my dislike for Kwame Nkrumah and all that he stood for.
4. You don't fully agree with the hard tactics I use in my campaign here against ethnocentrism.
I have written no article about myself except to disparage myself and create a humor out of my experiences. Concerning my achievements, I only mention them as a response of others' accusations. What do you want me to say to those who are asking what I have done for my country except to give them a long list of what I have done for my country? And when I do that, they accuse me of bragging about what I have done for my country? What do you want mean to say to those questioning my academic credentials except to explain it to them? And when I do that, the say you are bragging about your academic credentials by explaining it to us!

SAS, I don't know what you're talking of. You can be whatever you want to be. I shouldn't be bothered. I am doing this only for the sake of argument. You don't have to change the way you are because of anything I say here. We who read what you write here will continue forming our own views about you based on those things.
The list you provide shows you don't quite get my argument. Maybe you meant the list for someone else. I'll address only the first item. I, personally, don't think even those who have research based PhDs should come on ghanaweb throwing those degrees about since this is not an academic forum. Your use of Dr on this forum is just a subset of a certain behavior of my countrymen that I detest - the excessive use of titles as if that defines the essence of a man. In a sense, my detestation is nothing against you, personally. That is why as a matter of principle, I never address anybody on this forum as Dr or Prof (Prof Lungu has indicated that his Prof is part of his moniker and I use it in that sense only).
Your next two points are things I have never expressed any opinions about in any of your articles. I have commented once or twice on your anti-tribalism stance. It was never to censure you in any way.
SAS, some of us come here under different guises. You'll find it difficult to trace everything we say about you. That's why you think I've never said anything positive about your writings. If I remind you of some, you won't believe it.
Some of us can be critical of a certain aspect of your behaviour. That doesn't mean we hate you or detest you in any way. We interact on ghanaweb and go our separate ways. That's all there is to it. It is not personal. That is why I also condemn anybody who goes outside this forum to try to destroy someone. It shouldn't be done to you or to Okoampa or to anybody.

A LAWYER, a professor, and a physician walk into a bar. As they (predictably) begin to argue over drinks, the lawyer leans over the table and pulls out his trump card: “I'm right. Trust me, I’m a doctor.” The professor and physician are left speechless.
The lawyer isn’t wrong, strictly speaking. The American law degree is the Juris Doctor, literally “doctor of law”. The change from LLB (bachelor of laws) and LLM (master of laws) reflected a different approach to legal education stateside. As the modern incarnation of an older European doctorate, the new JD was intended to provide only professional preparation as a follow-up to a primary degree, usually from a liberal arts program. JDs were confined to the United States until about 15 years ago. JD programs have been popping up in other countries since.
The translation of the degree name is clear, but more sticky is whether a lawyer can properly refer to himself as a doctor. In America, “doctor” is commonly reserved for medical doctors and academics who hold a PhD (doctor of philosophy) degree. Holders of EdD (doctor of education) or PsyD (doctor of psychology) degrees might also be addressed as doctors. Some prefer the use of “doctor” to be limited to those with MD (doctor of medicine) degrees. Still, it’s standard American practice to call professors and physicians doctors. It’s rare to hear a lawyer addressed the same way.
The American Bar Association (ABA), which publishes model rules on professional ethics for lawyers, is unclear about whether lawyers can use the title Dr. There is a general prohibition on misleading potential clients, but the rules don’t address the specific “doctor” question. Some state ethics committees have stepped in where the model rules haven’t. Given the patchwork of state and national rules, lawyers intent on calling themselves doctors must check their local rules. For example, in Texas, lawyers couldn’t call themselves “doctor” until nine years ago. The state ethics committee reversed course in 2004, allowing the use of “doctor” as long as it wasn’t misleading—as, say, in an advert for medical malpractice law.
But if potential clients don’t know that JD degrees denote doctors of law, any use of Dr without an MD or PhD degree could be misleading. More important, calling lawyers doctors is silly and pedantic. Some argue that lawyers don’t “deserve” the title of doctor because their course of study is shorter and less rigorous than those of physicians or academics—or even SJD (doctor of juridical science) recipients. That misses the point. American lawyers are indeed a sort of doctor by degree, but the title Dr carries a specific meaning that is common and well-understood. The title Esq (esquire), if a bit stuffy, does the job without misleading anyone. Ethics boards might be flexible, but common sense is less so.

I don’t buy the explanation that Sarfo’s incommensurable epithet “Dr.” is missing because this is a draft.
The flagrant errors imbedded in this article, some of which are pointed out by Teacher, in my view, were consciously made to buttress the draft “theory” while gauging readers’ pulse regarding the author’s consciously omitted epithet.
He knew people would comment on the glaring omission and had to create a cover. Quoting Genesis 6:5 while referencing Genesis 5:5 is a clever ruse. Does anybody think he conjured Lance Armstrong’s 10 Tour de France titles?
Aficionado of Sheer Fakery, indeed!
Before I say more, let me comment on an article he posted yesterday blasting Okoampa for writing to the Texas State Bar. I arrived home too late and too tired to address that article head-on. Let me do that now: As I alluded to the author before, it was a childish undertaking if Okoampa did that. That is not the whole story either: When the Danquah Institute severed (?) ties with Okoampa I had not even noticed it in Okoampa’s “tagline,” until I was drawn to Sarfo Adjei’s comment. The dude was in the throes of euphoria.
I couldn’t read his comment closely without feeling that some complaint had been launched by him or a group of which he is closely aligned to the Danquah Institute, resulting in the think tank and Okoampa severing ties.
What is laughable, though, is to see Sarfo foaming at his hypocritical mouth, lamenting about a black man who could have lost his job because another black man had reported him. So, it was funny when a black man “complained” resulting in Okoampa losing his “job,” but yours isn’t funny although you did not lose yours?
I can’t believe this guy! Does he think people have forgotten about that? Maybe others may have but not me!
Back to the current article: His effort is modestly commendable. If this is what he intends to do henceforth, with a pinch of humility and shed that annoying “Dr.”, perhaps he’ll change how people perceive him.

There is nowhere in my article against Okoampa where I even pretended that I was bothered by his report. It was the infantile nature of the report that disgusted me. Remember that I was always daring Okoampa to report me anyway; and I said in my article that I am not bothered if people report me. I am not!! But that a man with his credentials should be that stupid to lodge such a porous complaint was the gist of my essay. For myself, Okoampa is too despicable to merit any attempt to harm him. He has harmed himself enough. But I must confess that I will be happy to see him sacked from his job, although I am not going to initiate or help in any action in that direction.... You also show all the time that you are far worse than Okoampa, in spite of the fact that you hold a doctoral degree in Pharmacy. You are the most irresponsible analyst imaginable and I will be happy to see you sacked for sheer stupidity......
By the way, help my memory by quoting anything I said concerning Okoampa's dismissal from the Danquah-Busia institution. Although I always wondered why the group selected such an idiot for its membership, I considered that incident too trivial for my attention.
All that you wrote that I consciously made those errors to prove a certain point depict you as unbelievably stupid. And that can only come from a Christian hypocrite like you going by the name of Osofo. Did you or did you not argue that all disabled people should not come close to the altar of God?

So some Ewes eat cat, eh? What's the big deal about that? When I first learned as a kid that Akans eat "gborgborme?or" - navel worm, the big white worm that grows in fallen trees, esp. palm trees, I couldn't believe the horror. As kids, we learned to smear our spit on our navels any time we encountered one during our adventures into the bush, as a protection against it entering our stomach! It was all foolishness the bigger ones passed on to us.
Culinary habits of others don't even count among my least bothers.
Grow up too!

I agree with you on the subject of Nkrumahists to whom the Osagyefo could do no wrong. Although personally i believe he was (and still is) the best and perhaps to date only truly visionary leader we ever had, some decisions of his including declaring a one-party state were his own undoing, irrespective of the shenanigans of the opposition and their collusion with external forces to derail our progress (which I hope you agree with me, was equally true and counter to our developmental efforts). If you disagree with the latter, then I would regard you as unrepentant and truly a hypocrite.

List all Nkrumah's dictatorial deeds and compare them to any Ghanaian leader, and you will find that he is the worst Ghanaian leader. If any of our presidents were to declare himself life president, concoct detention without trial, dismiss the chief justice, declare a one party state....you will be the first to be calling for his head. So now tell me who is the unrepentant hypocrite by believing still that Nkrumah is the best thing that happened to Ghana. If he did not screw you up with his young pioneer nonsense, you would not be chanting this mantra.

On the one hand you are trying to tell us to repent and to know how fallible we are as humans. Most of us agree with you on that. But you seem to think that there is nothing good in others e.g. Kwame Nkrumah. That is most shocking and quite extraordinary if you choose a person by a narrow list of things he did wrong. I am sure in my own comments I roundly condemned Nkrumah for declaring Ghana a one party state and actually indicated that was his undoing.
You see, I believe in fair, objective and balanced criticism.the trouble is,m there are some (and i guess you are one) who simply refuse to see things that way. Are you not the same person who tried to put Okoampa Ahoofe in his place and rightly so in my view? Be real man, and stop being selective and biased in the way you go about your business. That, sadly is part of our problems in Ghana. I thought you were someone else but clearly you are not.

I believe you attended the School of Drama at Legon? Do you know whose singular idea it was and whose drive it was to set up that School? Perhaps you should go back and study the history of your own school. My brother, no one is perfect and as your sermon seems to suggest in this article, we need to recognise and accept our human condition and be ready to say sorry when we do wrong right?
So why can't you simply do that too? As you can see from nay postings, people feel you are attached to something and simply won't let go and I wonder why that is. Please let's be true to ourselves and to everyone, including all our elders and leaders before us, imperfect as each and everyone of them was. Fair? that's all i ask of you as a fellow human being.

I will be out of here for some time because I have to take care of some business; but I am making the following general points:
1. There is NOTHING that will make me discard my hard-earned title of "Doctor of Laws" because it is a degree that I have properly earned. So if you don't see it attached to my name, don't start to declare a victory: I must have forgotten to annex it. I am DR. SAMUEL ADJEI SARFO, ATTORNEY AND COUSELOR AT LAW and will remain so until your premature deaths.
2. Don't call me arrogant or pompous because to me, they connote stupidity and idiocy. I am neither. And if you insist on these terms, go ahead and furnish me with supporting facts of my arrogance and pomposity, and I can change for the better. Don't spew things you cannot defend against me and back off when I ask you to explain. That makes me disgusted.
3. As regards all the rest, you may understand that I believe in myself as extremely intelligent and wise and compassionate and good although very, very tough. You may disagree with me but I agree with myself!

I agree, Kwadwo!
We have to be a bit reflective where we find ourselves walking/working. Usually, we must be humble, recognizing that many have walked the path we are on, that those before us contributed to our current possibilities, that those people had their own personal and contemporary limitations.
It baffles me why, in 2014, you, Dr. Sarfo, prefers to waste so much
electronic ink on what, to use your own own jargon, are Nkrumah's "wrongs."
We are reminded of the lady who recently said Nkrumah was responsible for all of Ghana's woes. You know - the one who wants to be President and has formed a political party.
It does not make sense!
It is not rational!
It is a tad wasteful of our time!
ITEM: It also baffles us, your affinity for "evil". We do not understand why a US/Texas-trained legal practitioner concerned about public policy and justice likes to throw that concept around so casually, so often.
To borrow a concept from you, We are "alarmed"!
Further, we do not believe that it is productive to ask people to "confess the things that.. (they).. do wrong to submerge the country in filth and corruption". Our sense is, that is really no way to build a democracy endowed with reputable, egalitarian, public-centered institutions that can operate to the benefit of the average citizen, and not just for the benefit of the wealthy and well-connected.
There is no history to support your "theory", if we may. That idea, as well, is "unintelligent", if we may again borrow from you.
This notorious useless and disgraceful SAS must give us a break.
After all, you have completely lost every respect in the eyes of most Ghanaian people for you stupidity.
You give us the feeling, one only needs to fill ...
