This is a very useless article by someone who simply wants to draw attention to himself. An attention he clearly does not deserve. The leadership of the GEC and the EPCG should ignore the writer. He has nothing to offer the good people of the two churches. He can leave the EPCG and form his own church. Period

Kele,
I am disappointed at your tone and combative and uncompromising position.
I was born, baptised and confirmed into the EP Church. In fact, my close and extended family played a major role in welcoming the Bremen Missionaries just as the Catholics into Anlo, providing them with free land to build the schools and churches on and some continue as at today to work for the growth of Christianity in Ghana, not only Anlo. I myself never got hooked on the religious myths and legends they spread even as a child, and had publicly renounced any form of superstitious beliefs, either traditional or Judeo-Christian. Or, whatever. My overarching task is to combat and redress the harm my ancestors and relations had conspired with white men to unleash on we Africans.
Now, as insiders in both the EP Church, just as in the Global, I had followed the schism from the 1980s until the final break in the 90s, not the 80s, as you wrote. The smouldering fire was lit by the introduction of SU into the church in the 1960s. Then it morphed into CHRIFE in the early '70s in the sec. schlls and tertiary educ'nal sector. It was this CHRIFE youngmen and women from the universities, my peer group, who started it all by gathering the youth in school blocks in the late '70s and early '80s to hold their own services, speak in tongues, and the kind of hocus pocus charade associated with them while denouncing their parents in the EP Church. The situation was very bad in the southern VR. In Anloga my own junior brother was caught in their web and my mother, as an elder - a Hame-dada - was very concerned. It was in reaction to this new devt which was seeing the Church lose the young people that led some elders, esp. from the south of the VR, to propose the adoption of some of the new practices by the youth such as singing new songs outside the EP hymn book, clapping of hands, drumming and dancing. This was opposed by the group led by Rev. Prof. Dzobo, who adopted a conservative and doctrinaire posture. I sympathised with them, as I don't want to speak in tongues and scream my head off in church. Neither do I want to fall down in a trance: that's pure "christo-paganism", a phrase first coined by the Rev. Prof Baeta, Emeritus, the brain behind the formation of Mawuli School.
But what broke the camel's back was the decision of Rev.Prof. Dzobo to stand again as Moderator, instead of follow tradition and resign after serving his term as all others before him. That's a hypocritical position for someone taking a traditional line. I happened to be in Ghana and in Ho that fateful Saturday when the last major meeting before the breakup was held at Mawuli School. The PNDC team campaigning for a no party democracy were also given a mauling in Ho that Saturday, to the shock of even the viral opposition who were saying it was already a foregone conclusion that a Yes vote would be secured in the VR, just as happened in the BA, where the campaign started.
My sympathy goes to those against the Dzobo group, who broke away to form Global. Now, I have family in both groups, so I share my sympathies with both sides in their dispute and go on with my own mission which is to expose both groups as championing an obscurantist and primitive mind debilitating superstitious nonsense.
Devts since the break-up have shown that the Global group were more attuned to emerging devts that was causing the church to lose members than the EP Church. I learned that the EP Church now also dance and drum in their services, so there has been a lot of convergence between the two groups since the '90s. I think they should sit down, reconcile and consider merging. If they cannot merge, then let them reconcile and in a spirit of fair play, share the assets.

Great article Mr Ashiagbor and keep the good work up to rescue us from these self seekers and stomach clegies. How on earth can Global church share E.P. properties? What history are we writing in E.P.C.? Did E.P. share any property with R.C. church when they left her? Why are we in a rush and confusing co-existence with reconciliation. Global and E.P. are different registered entities and have nothing to share please. The pretense and hypocricy by our leaders must stop now so we concentrate on manpower and spiritual development of our dear E.P.C. Global church should just write letters to the courts to discontinue the case for us to CO-EXIST please. I am with heavy heart and in tears now because I was a witness to many of the killings of the EP members by the breakaway church especially at Dzelukope and Keta. We must honour our heroes and the Defenders of the FAITH for keeping the church alive till date and stop imposing the so called reconciliation on us since it must come from the contrite HEART not sharing of properties.
This is a very useless article by someone who simply wants to draw attention to himself. An attention he clearly does not deserve. The leadership of the GEC and the EPCG should ignore the writer. He has nothing to offer the g ...
