We may criticize such suits all we want. But it is the Courts that would decide whether or not a suit is a frivolous Law suit.
Meanwhile, the humongous gravity of the consequences of the impasse discounts any suggestion that this Law Suit is frivolous. I wonder if the UFP leader's suit was against the Government for prolonging the crisis the Professor would think of it as frivolous.
By the way, given the so-called 'political edge' that the Professor is complaining about, does he know for sure that Mr. Kusi-Poku brought the suit on behalf of the UFP or not? And what if he did? If the Law allows the UFP leader to sue in the name of his Party, what difference does it make so long as the ultimate result prevents the needless loss of lives?
We are not at War to expect that any collateral casualty (damage) is inevitable, and should be acceptable. The fact that our Health System has been deteriorating prior to the Doctors' Strike does not justify accepting any preventable loss of lives that the Doctors' Strike would cause.
Just as Mr. Kusi-Poku has decided to have the Courts to compel the Doctors to curtail the Strike, some may choose to sue the Government, instead, to accede to the Doctors' demands, or some parts of them that would be acceptable to the Doctors, to arrive at the same generally preferable end of curtailing needless deaths.
If the Akufo-Addo's campaign is reaping benefits from any voice or action it projects into solving the crisis, why can't UFP's leadership do similarly? Most folks from the very beginning advised that we should not be politicizing this Strike. Yet, the evidence abounds that all sides, including NPP and Mahama's Administration, have been whipping up points in the crisis that favor them politically.
What most Ghanaians hope for is a timely ending of the crisis to avoid the needless deaths. And I do not see how snuffing the UPF leader's efforts in that direction serves for any better purpose.
