The exercise could have been done without any problems except that our judiciary, legislative and EC itself is so corrupt and can't seem to be independent; they're always doing the bidding of the NDC--some say it's the Rawlings factor--that they're toying with Ghanaians.
I can't imagine the EC boss and her outfit telling Ghanaians that they won't bow to any pressures from anywhere to compile a new voters register when it's evidently clear, by Dr. Bawumia's Microsoft Power Point presentation that uncovered over 76,000 Togolese names and IDs imported into EC's electoral data. The we have some so-called political parties who for strange reasons, support the corruption that's going on just for the reason or fact that Nana Akufo-Addo, being the flag bearer, and his NPP have had the courage to expose what nobody have been able to do in Ghana, esp for our elections to be truly free and fair.
The NDC have been in the business of rigging elections since 1992 when Afari-Gyan was appointed as EC's boss. These dubious electoral schemes have existed but have never been uncovered until now! That's the reason why the NDC have always boasted of winning elections even when it's obvious to majority of Ghanaians that they're messing up with the nation and its economy and everything! They always know the kind of groundwork they've done; making sure pink sheets, massaging voting results, over-voting and importing IDs and names of foreign nations into our electoral data. The fact is that the EC have always connived with the NDC to cheat in our elections.
They're quick to ask: "if NDC have been rigging results, why did Kuffour win?" Many Ghanaians got fed up with Rawlings' 19yrs of dictatorship, so even those who didn't like the NPP (UP tradition) voluntarily joined forces to make sure the P/NDC group won't remain in the seat. Kuffour govt brought rapid change; his first term as president quickly brought hope to Ghanaians. There was confidence in our system for the first time as businesses began to feel the change and the new hope. The rest of the world acknowledged Kuffour's sterling performance.
The NPP were too over-confident in the 2008 elections; they dropped their guard as the NDC used the same dubious schemes to win. Nana Akufo-Addo won, but just short of the 50 plus 1 that was needed and that's why the NDC aided by Afari Gyan did the trick! What the NDC don't understand is that all the info the NPP have used to expose the come from their own former supporters who crossed carpet to join the NPP. Some are genuine; some are fake! But it has helped the NPP.
The NPP is genuine about having a truely free and fair elections that would bring peace and prosperity. It's not about Nana Akufo-Addo, just wanting to become president; it's about Ghana's future as a nation, who wants to develop in true freedom. Strangely it's only the NDC and their allies who're vehemently opposing the compilation of a new and genuine voters register.
The new EC boss, Mrs. Charlotte Osei should be bold and wise to see through things and do the right thing. Many of our leaders in position pretend to be clean, esp those who've sworn an oath with the Holy Books to uphold righteousness and be role models for the youth and our country, yet many of them easily fail to live up to expectation. Lets pray for Ghana.

If the main opposition party NPP is living in a fantasy land ascribing their electoral defeats to rigging they will remain in opposition til kingdom come. Again Dr Afari-Gyan and the EC conducted elections won by the NPP, in one case with his FAMILY HELD HOSTAGE NO LESS!! When they lose it is rigging!!! THIS IS IN THEIR DNA THEIR ANTECEDENTS NEVER RECOGNIZED THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE DATING TO 1951!! TO THE EXTENT THAT CAMPAIGNED FOR THE QUEEN TO REMAIN HEAD OF STATE AND BEGGED THE BRITISH TO NOT GRANT INDEPENDENCE. THE ONLY RIGGED BALLOT WAS IN 1969 WHEN BUSIA AND HIS CIA GANGSTERS RIGGED THE ELECTIONS WAY BEFORE THE VOTERS REGISTER WAS OPENED. IF THESE PARTICULAR SET OF NEOCOLONIAL RUNNING DOGS ACTUALLY BELIEVED IN FREE ELECTIONS LET ALONE THEIR BLACK PROPAGANDA AGAINST OSAGYEFO & CPP, CPP AND ITS MEMBERS WOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO EXERCISE THEIR SUFFRAGE & ELECTORAL RIGHTS END OF STORY!!! THEY WERE SO SCARED OF THE CPP'S SHADOW THEY WENT TO COURT TO PREVENT IMORU EGALA FROM STANDING FOR THE PRESIDENCY!!! THEY ARE TOO LAZY AND ARROGANT TO UNDERTAKE THE ORGANIZATIONAL WORK TO EXPAND THEIR SHARE OF THE VOTE, INSTEAD WASTING THEIR TIME WITH RIGGING FANTASIES!! AS BANKRUPT AS THE NDC IS, THESE IDIOTS INSTEAD OF CURBING THE AKAN JINGOISM THAT INFECTS THEIR PARTY THEY WOULD RATHER SIT ON THEIR HANDS SPINNING CONSPIRACY THEORIES WHILE GHANA ROTS. IF THEY DO NOT HAVE AN INTERNAL REVOLUTION AND REFORM/REORGANIZE THEIR PARTY THEY WILL DESERVEDLY LOSE IN 2016 TO THE DETRIMENT OF GHANA.

Powerpoint presentation was what fascinated you into believing that the informationprese nted by bawumia was true. Hahaha npp boys wake up from slumber. Bawumia has not discovered anything but just seeking attention and opinion of Ghanaians and create tension on Ghanaians and the EC. Until we are able as a nation establish a proper system of identification relax your mind it will be difficult to clean our register. Remember how connected our countries are with the neighbours. So npp spare us space to breath

This is the laziest analysis I have ever read on this issue. Which regions in Ghana have the most fulanis? Ashanti and Eastern regions. You can move to the border areas and you will not find anything.

Victor A. Young is another useful NPP idiot. In your blockhead mind which sovereign state will release it's citizens voters register to an opposition party in a different country? Is the Togolese electoral commission so daft as NPP so as to release it's State documents to an external party full of terrorists to jeopardise it's security? And much more, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast releasing it's voters register to NPP? Without taking into consideration, the legal implications involved especially the data protection of it's citizens? I find NPP's act as a party being led by a donkey much more when that so called leader has a legal background. Does this not confirm what many people think and believe that Akufo Addo is not a qualified lawyer but parading as one? This brings to mind during his tenure as Attorney General, he could not even charge Tsikata properly. Again, as the so called lawyer, he couldn't stand in the witness box during the bogus election petition for him to be exposed as fake but instead went into ground and rather allowed an economist, Bawumia to an embarrassment. Talking about incompetency and corruption, who better does that fit than Nana Akufo Addo. Remember, the diplomatic passports, drill ship, bribing of delegates, deceiving Ghanaians as lawyer without certificate, allowing his party to degenerate into killing it's own members? Only those still living in the stone age will believe that Togo, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast will release it's State documents to a party made up of fools which think Ghanaians wwill believe them. Victor A. Young and his party are indeed screwed up stairs.

Prof, from paragraph two of the article, I get the impression that you are not in favour of NPP calling for a Voters Register. However, in paragraph four, you suggest that Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia should go to court to ask for a new register. Which is which? You cannot be against that idea and at the same advise that NPP goes to court for what you are not in favour.
I agree with you that best to clean the Voters Register is to clean it rather preparing a new one. In fact, I do not blame the EC for the bloated Voters Register but the political parties, especially NDC and NPP who actively encouraged and facilitated minors and foreigners to register. In fact, you captured this beautifully in one of your articles on the subject and I quote "What I have learned since then, though, is that the effective application of any technology, at least where the electoral process in Ghana is concerned, has far less intrinsically to do with the quality and the nature of the concerned technology itself, but more to do with the culture, mindset and behavioral praxis of the people who opt for the use of such technology" ("A New Voters Register is not the Answer", Ghanaweb, August 19, 2015

Let's support NPP in their clarion call for anew voter register and all other electoral reforms so as not to descend into gutter.
