Ghana's education is certainly in shambles. We educate our children with what we think is without looking at the net outcome. Why do we educate people? Is it to achieve an aim? Is it to read and write? Or to think critically? Or to think creatively?
The aims will tell us what and how to educate our people with. The Colonial master aim of efucating is wast gain gain civil servants to help them manage their colonial tasks and gain their resources effectively. They stressed on english, Latin and the humanistic and that produced more lawyers, and accountants and etc. Nkrumah after gaining independence switched gears into adding scientists for his industrial development agenda. He also threw in the boarding school system which helped Ghanaian students from different backgrounds live together and learn to gel better since he knew they would need to work better in society. These incubation period was 7 years.
Somehow the experience stayed with us but due to the introduction of jss system this had shortened this system. Also the jss had reduced the scientific addition by Nkrumah by throwing into the mix certain washed down technical text books etc without thinking through the effects. In short we are teaching but the net results is not good. We have very low quality writers today unlike the past. We have very little scientist who can actually create because there is no room to play and experiment to experience and document the theory they research,
Our schools don't even have the sports platforms needed anymore. There are no academic scholarships. And as for the arts and music it's simply dead that's why we only hear folks who are not in school creating music. We don't have athletes anymore and most of schools are reduced to only soccer talent wise.
There are no research labs on the tertiary campus which is linked to some industry to experiment on things that could churn out some breakthrough for the sector. Even our teachers are not skilled in their art. There is no emphasis on morally disciplined students anymore. Some just teach to survive and all these problems now define our education system.
We simply are not ready for prime time and the net results is sad. As an entrepreneur who hires people, I am yet to hire anyone who does not have some work experience already. This is because every new student I hire is totally useless to our work. Even those with experience give me a though time in teaching them basic things they should be thought in schools. Ghana education system sis this way because the ghaha education service is a moribund institution. We must revamp it and go back to the old way with new content and methods from place in the world which churn critical thinkers and creators in all areas of life. We must tie academia with industry and society in general. We must bring back the arts and crafts and creativity and tie them to industry. The system must breathe again with better teachers who love to teach by offering competing pay and not fat we are seeing.

'Everybody is going to school "A" or "B" is going some'
The needed impetus, and all necessary materials be it logistic or tutorials are all missing. An unemployed graduate is forced to go into teaching just to earn a living. What type of tutorial can he get and to give? Just as my learned said, the education sector should do all all they can to change things for the better.
It is because of all these that the presently exam cheats and those chaos have been giving us sleepless nights because everybody wants his/her son or daughter to pass whether by foul means or not but just make a short-cut without any education gains.
So this is the nation we are living in.
Why shouldn't we allow our education to be handled preciously in order to change our status of falling so low, oh Ghana.
We were once forebearers.
