Freemasons to organize lecture on prostrate cancer

Accra, July 21, GNA - The District Grand Lodge of Freemasons is organising public education lectures on prostrate disorders as part of the Diamond Jubilee of the Lodge, which runs till next year.

Mr Samuel Bannerman Martin-Daniels, Chairman of the Public Relations Unit of the Lodge said the lecture being co-sponsored by Astra Zeneca; an Accra-based pharmaceutical company, was in line with the zeal of freemasons to contribute to the welfare of society.

He told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday that the Lodge had organised previous lectures on diabetes and hypertension. Mr Martin-Daniels said Freemasons in Britain had contributed a lot of money towards charity.

"In Ghana freemasons have followed the footsteps of other worthy countries and donated huge sums of money to the health sector, notably the Cardio Thoracic Centre and the Urology Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital," he said.

Mr Martin-Daniels said two years ago the Lodge donated 55 million cedis to the Unit and an additional 283 million cedis for equipment in 2005.
