Unsafe aborting is dangerous - Students cautioned

A Principal Midwife at the Konongo-Odumasi Government Hospital has warned students against unsafe abortion, saying, it could prove to be “too costly”.

Madam Rose Nimako expressed worry about the use of all kinds of herbs, mixtures and concoctions to terminate unwanted pregnancy by many adolescent girls, predisposing them to danger.

She was speaking at a forum held for students of the Konongo-Odumasi Senior High School (SHS) by the Center for Development of People (CEDEP), an NGO. It was meant to educate them on the negative effects of unsafe abortion and pre-marital sex.

The Principal Midwife asked them to concentrate on their studies and resist any temptation to engage in sexual adventurism.

Many young girls had ruined their academic careers, become barren and in some cases lost their lives because of the mistake they made through unsafe abortion.

Madam Nimako pleaded with school authorities and other stakeholders to act together to discourage teenage sex by stepping up guidance and counseling.

Mr. Edmond Osei Gyamfi, the Konongo Municipal Deputy Coordinating Director, counseled the students to be careful about sex, to avoid getting infected with HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
