The main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has said the opposition will amplify its criticism about the PDS debacle in the coming days adding the government’s diversionary tactics won’t work.
NDC’s General Secretary, Johson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito told Kasapa 102.5 Fm that the President is deliberately setting agenda in order to keep critics from questioning the PDS saga.
“The PDS blow has confused the government and that is the main reason for the President’s walkabout lately. They are finding every means to end the conversations about the PDS saga. The President’s Angola trip was occasioned by the PDS issue and I can tell you for a fact that the US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Ghana was also partly because of the PDS matters."
"There is no doubt that PDS is like a tsunami that will blow up the government,” said General Mosquito in an interaction with sit-in host Akwasi Nsiah on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm.
His comment comes on the heels of the Minority’s petition to the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie S. Sullivan, demanding investigations by the US Government into the PDS issue.
The petition signed by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu was delivered at the US Embassy in Accra by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The Minority wants to trigger investigations under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of the United States of America especially after “a clearer picture is now emerging that the Akufo-Addo Government stands complicit with top functionaries and cronies neck-deep in the putrescent sleaze.”
A Press Statement issued by the Ranking Member, Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs on the said petition contended that the Akufo-Addo government cannot be trusted to conduct thorough and independent investigations into this scandal of monumental proportions.
But the Information Minister has indicated the petition was needless on the basis that the American government had already expressed its confidence in government’s ability to do a thorough and fair investigation.
“It’s shameful how politics has destroyed us as a nation. This same American government that you despised because you claimed it was setting up a military base in the country, which will attract terrorist attacks and that the American soldiers will be raping our girls for which reason you started various campaigns against that deal has in a short while become so important to you that you have confidence in it to investigate PDS saga."
"This is not the first time. They repeated same when they petitioned the Securities and Exchange Commission of the US, over the US$2.25 billion bond issue. So, as usual, this will come to nought. They are always suppressing the truth because of politics; destroying our nation in the international arena just because they want to make political capital out of everything."
"Commenting on the fall out from the Minority’s petition, Mr. Asiedu Nketia reiterated that they’re about to trigger relentless campaigns adding “we know more than they think we know about the PDS issue”
“I’ve read in the dailies that the President is saying some greedy criminals want to sabotage his government and I want to tell him that he shouldn’t look beyond; the greedy criminals don’t exist anywhere, but they’re within his government,” Mr Asiedu Nketia said.
