The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has been accused by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of interfering with the police's work in the Effutu constituency.

The NDC, having raised alarms about the violence marring the limited voter registration exercise, stated that the police are unable to execute their mandate due to threats from government officials.

Fiifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, claimed at a press briefing that the Member of Parliament for Effutu threatened a Regional Police Commander over the arrest of NPP thugs who were causing chaos at the registration centers.

"In Berekum West, hoodlums deployed by the MP have terrorized registrants and NDC agents at the Benkasa registration center, physically assaulting everyone in the queue and specifically targeting our team with torture.

"Similarly, in Effutu, NPP thugs violently disrupted the registration process, attacking our registrants who were queued to register. Shockingly, Afenyo-Markin threatened the Regional Police Commander not to take any action over these incidents," Fiifi Kwetey stated.
