Amidst the recent power outages, a cold war of sorts has been going on, especially on social media between members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Richard Ahiagbah, the national communication director of the NPP, found himself in the crosshairs of criticism after his comments regarding the ongoing electricity challenges.
Ahiagbah, addressing public frustrations stemming from the power outages, assured Ghanaians that maintenance works were nearing completion.
“The recent power outages have been understandably frustrating. However, there is an end in sight.
“The maintenance works are almost complete, and we can soon expect access to an uninterrupted power supply around the clock, as we have become accustomed to under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
“The NDC is the last political organization to point fingers because Ghana has not forgotten the hurts of the real dumsor, suffered under H.E. Mahama,” he said in a social media post on April 23, 2024.
However, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, an aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, fired back at Ahiagbah's remarks. She quoted Ahiagbah's tweet and described his comments as "dumb and pathetic.”
“Are you actually typing this tweet yourself lol! What a dumb and pathetic tweet!
“Why @RAahiagbah when the lights go off under Akufo Addo, Bawumia, and the NPP’s watch we are no longer human, or are we transformed into another planet where there is no darkness or dumsor! Wow, this is utterly ridiculous and shameful.
“Ghana deserves better!” she said.
