Adansi students receive bursaries

Fomena (Ash), Jan 11, GNA - The Adansi Traditional Council, has released GH¢6,000 as bursaries for 50 students in the Adansi North Dist= rict. The package was presented to 11 tertiary students, each of whom received GH¢200, 39 Senior High School students, who received GH¢100 each, at a ceremony at Fomena.

Okofo Sobin Kan II, Dompoasehene and acting President of the Council= , cautioned the students that the facility could be withdrawn if they faile= d to maintain high academic standards. He said the Council in the future would allocate greater portion of bursaries to girls to enable them to pursue Science, Mathematics and Engl= ish at the university.

Okofo Kan said part of royalties from AngloGold Ashanti was used for=

the bursary awards and asked the beneficiaries to study hard to justify t= he investment being made in their education.

He said the Adansi State Scholarship Scheme was changed to bursaries= to enable more indigenous students to benefit at a time, adding that, to qualify the students would have to be academically brilliant, needy, and of good conduct. Mr George Adjei-Henne, Adansi North District Director of Education, appealed to the Council to extend its support to the needy but brilliant basic school students. He expressed worry that the performance of the district in the 2009 Basic School Certificate Examination was poor.
