Assembly members pledge commitment to boosting revenue

Shama, June 27, GNA - Assembly members within the Shama District Assembly have pledged to work hard to help the assembly to boost revenue collection.

The assembly members have therefore agreed to organize educational fora in various communities to sensitize the people on the need to pay property rates, income tax and other such tolls which would aid in the development of the district.

The members declared this support at a three-day training programme for 27 assembly members in the district organized by the Institute of Local Government Studies in collaboration with the Local Government Development Programme (LogoDep).

Both new and old members of the Assembly were exposed to the model standing orders of the Assembly, the District Assemblies Act and revenue mobilization among others.

Mr. Enoch Kojo Appiah, Shama District Chief Executive noted that it was high time the Assembly became self-reliant through its internally generated fund for developing the district. He therefore called on the assembly members to stick to their promise and to help the assembly to improve its revenue base.
