Minister for Information break ground for 500 million project

The Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, on Friday, cut the sod for the commencement of a 500 million cedis Library Complex for Adoten Secondary School at Aburi in the Eastern Region.

The ceremony formed part of activities to mark the 15th anniversary of the enstoolment of Nana Djan Kwasi, chief of Aburi.

The project is to be funded by the newly created Akuapem Anafo Development Fund and it would be completed in October this year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey called on the chiefs of Akuapem to settle all disputes among them to help reduce tension in the area.

He expressed his appreciation to the chiefs and people of Aburi for the cordial relations between Africans and Americans and others in the Diaspora as well as the bond of friendship between Akuapem South District and Lansing, Michigan City in the United States.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said information available indicate that, Ghanaians abroad made direct transfer of 1.4 billion dollars to the Ghanaian economy while exports brought in 1.9 billion dollars, adding that such international relationship could have a positive impact on the Ghanaian economy.

He supported the idea for the formation of the Akuapem Anafo Development Fund and assured the people of the government's support for such community help initiative.

Mr. Seth Wiafe Dankwa, Member of Parliament for Akuapem South said under this year's budget, four basic schools in the district would be provided with new classroom blocks to be funded from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND).

He said two roads would be reconstructed including the tarring of the Nsawam-Mangoase road.

Mr. Wiafe -Dankwa pledged 100 bags of cement towards the library project and promised that, he would use 10 percent of his share of the Common Fund to support the Akuapem Anafo Development Fund.

Nana Djan Kwasi enumerated projects, which have been provided during his tenure of office and appealed to the Akuapem South District Assembly to ensure that every new house put up is provided with a "suitable place of convenience before approval is given".

He appealed to the government to rehabilitate Aburi-Nsawam Road, complete the Aburi community centre complex, renovation of the Aburi Nsawam markets and extend pipe-borne water to the Aburi community.
