The Volta Regional Security Council(REGSEC) is in talks with the Regional House of Chiefs to rescind its decision over the suspension of the Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers of Nkonya and Alavanyo traditional areas.

The Regional House of Chiefs suspended indefinitely, the Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers of Nkonya and Alavanyo for their inability to maintain peace between the two traditional areas, following the continuous mayhem in the area, even though the Chiefs had insisted they cannot be held responsible for the recurring conflict.

But the Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa has said the Regional House of Chiefs will soon revoke the sanctions imposed on the traditional authorities of the two towns following a plea on their behalf by REGSEC.

“The REGSEC made an appeal to the RHC to reconsider their decision so that we can engage them better. So the Regional House of Chiefs has replied to our letter that they are going to consider our request..,” Dr. Letsa told newsmen in Accra.

Meanwhile, the Regional Minister is confident that government’s takeover of the Nkonya, Alavanyo land will reduce the tension between the two towns.

The piece of land which has for years triggered bloodshed has been compulsorily acquired by government.

On Thursday, the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul announced that government had taken the decision to takeover the disputed land as a first measure of solving the protracted crisis.

Archibald Letsa opined that the move is key to achieving sustained peace in Nkonya and Alavanyo.
