Road contractors asked to check dust pollution

Ho, Feb. 8, GNA - Road contractors have been asked to

constantly water roads they are working on to prevent dust

pollution. To this end, agencies of the Ministry of Roads and

Highways which supervise such projects have been asked to

enforce this demand and factor the additional cost of water-

dressing of the roads in the dry season. The call came from the Ho Municipal Network of the

Governance Issues Forum (GIF-Net) at a training workshop on

public deliberation and dialogue, organized by the Institute of

Democratic Governance (IDEG) in Ho. The Network cited a number of on-going road projects in

the Ho Municipality such as the road from the traffic light near the

High Court to the Sports Stadium junction, where dust pollution

has become unbearable for households along that road. Mr. Henry Ametefee, Volta Regional Co-ordinator of the

National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) last

Saturday expressed a similar concern at a burial service in Ho. He said the burial service was shifted from Afife in the Akatsi

District to Ho because of serious dust pollution caused by the

construction of the Afife/Denu stretch of the Accra/Aflao

highway. "There is disaster in my house, I cannot host mourners and

well- wishers in that environment. The authorities concerned

should do something about this," he said.
