Scouts to be equipped with employable skills

The Netherlands Government is liaising with the Ghana Scout Association (GSA) to construct an ultra-modern training camp at Wawase in the Afigya-Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region.

Mr. Johnson Asare Antwi, the Regional Commissioner, said the multi-purpose project is designed to facilitate operations of the Association to achieve its noble objectives and that the first phase would commence soon.

With funds being provided by the Netherlands Government, the project when completed, would provide training facilities and entrepreneurial skills programmes for the scouts, particularly in the areas of survival skills, soap-making and embroidery, amongst others.

Mr.Antwi, who was addressing a meeting of the Association at the Youth Centre in Kumasi, indicated that the project formed part of measures to strengthen the internal structures and also improve their infrastructure in general, in order to cope with contemporary challenges.

He appealed to corporate bodies to come to their aid to develop the scout concept to appreciable standards for the benefit of the youth. Nana Oboadum Kusi Antwi II, chief of Wawase, asked members of the Association to be disciplined, respectful and patriotic.

They should not use the Association as machinery to foment trouble or engage in disturbances since they were being trained to take up responsible positions in the future
