A & G Agro Mechanical Industries Ghana Ltd (AGAMI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for the development of agriculture in the country.
As part of the partnership agreement, A&G Agro will partner with the Tamale Mechanization Station to equip it with the state of the art tractor assembly line machinery to commence the assembling of MF tractors, planters, harvesters and other farming inputs.
A press release signed by Thomas Abanga, CEO, AGAMI and copied to the GNA said, “our mission is to empower the agricultural community to eradicate hunger and poverty by assisting farmers in developing their current agricultural practices beyond mere subsistence to sustainable businesses and farming practices.”
It said AGAMI intends to work with non-governmental organizations and private farmers to provide a holistic approach the mechanization process to include an extensive line of modern and affordable tractors and implements, power tillers, harvesters, environmentally friendly agro-chemicals, and provide Agribusiness development services.
The release said the services would include machinery hire and operators training services, farming tools, mobile mechanical repair and maintenance services, spare parts, modern agricbusiness training, storage and post-harvest losses prevention techniques, and education in environmentally-friendly high yield farming practices.
It said in championing an effort to eradicate poverty and ensure food-security for all Ghanaian citizens through state of the art mechanization, there was the need for the development of a workforce of skilled agriculturalists and savvy business enterprises.
It said “AGAMI envisions a society of sustainable growth, progressive development and economic self-sufficiency for each and every citizen. We believe true development involves not only delivering aid, but also promoting economic growth broad-based- inclusive growth that would lift people out of poverty.
The release said its main objectives include providing the Ghanaian farming community with machinery/implements, services and resources that enhance bountiful food crop production, sustainability and promote farming practices that lead to a healthy environment.
It also aims at empowering farmers to sharpen their overall business acumen and skill base, identify and enlist the support of entities necessary to secure infrastructure stability, evoke farming practices that are mindful of environment health, and develop sustainable marketing practices, among others.
The release said as a Semi-Knock Down tractor and implements manufacturer, importer and a reseller of various brands of agro inputs, A&G supplies systems for the cultivation of corn, rice, soya bean and vegetables.
It said the company also believes in the continued growth and development of the agricultural industry which is fundamental to the nation’s future economic stability and prosperity.
The release said A&G Agro in pursuit of its vision has signed a long term partnership with Global Meccanica, a foreign tractor component manufacturer; Agromasters of Turkey, a global implements manufacturer; VST Shakti power Tillers and tractors Ltd of India, a small Agric input manufacturers; Gongy Xiaoyi Hongyun Machinery factory of China, a grain dyer and rice miller; and Internationale De Commerce ET De Service (ICS) and Terradonis, crop seed manufacturers of France.
The release said the partnership with these companies is geared towards an intellectual and capacity exchange between both parties where they will help us in setting up and training our local mechanics and technician to assemble their products locally in Ghana and to supply the rest of the sub region.
It said this will reduce overhead costs in assembling them overseas this will open up access in terms of affordable job creation as it is in line with the government agenda in food security.
