Teacher drowns in swimming pool

A 28-year-old teacher, Hayford Kwadwo Mintah, has drowned in a swimming pool at Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The sad incident happened at Nana Gyima Hotel when the deceased and some of his friends went partying at the hotel. He is a teacher at the Boabeng Fiema Local Authority Junior High School (JHS).

According to information available to The Finder, the friends noticed that Mintah was tipsy so they all decided to stop swimming to prevent any disaster.

They realised Mintah did not know how to swim so he was helped to swim using a tube, but because of the way he was behaving, they took him from the swimming pool and headed home.

At the entrance of the hotel, the deceased told his friends that he had left something valuable behind so he was going for it.

They waited for some minutes but he was not coming so they decided to check on him. A pool attendant realised there was someone under the swimming pool and dived into it. He found out that it was Mintah.

The Nkoranza Police have closed down Nana Gyimah Hotel swimming pool to help in the investigation process. This is the second time in less than five months that someone has died in the pool of the hotel.

The Nkoranza Police Commander, DSP Joseph Owusu, in an interview with The Finder confirmed the incident and said the body has been deposited at the St. Theresa Hospital morgue, pending autopsy.
