The premier Nurses' and Midwives' Training College (NMTC) in Tamale celebrated its 50th anniversary by reaching out to the community in a meaningful way. The academic community, comprising management, tutors, and students, came together to extend a helping hand to the Nyohini Children's Home through a substantial donation.
The donation majorly comprised food items including 5 bags of maize and 5 bags of 25 kg of rice, packs of sardines and two cartons of tin tomatoes. Other essentials on the donation list included diapers, Cadbury cocoa drinks, mopping sticks, used clothes and shoes, soft drinks and tissue. These items were the collective widow’s mite of the NMTC family, aimed to provide much-needed support to the children residing at the Nyohini Children's Home.
Additionally, the donation was enhanced with detergents and cleansing agents comprising 25 litres of bleach, 25 litres of Bine 20, and 50 litres of liquid soap. At NMTC Tamale, they believe strongly that cleanliness is next to godliness and for that matter take hygiene seriously.
The initiative underscores NMTC's commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate, embodying the spirit of giving back to society and addressing the needs of the needy. By choosing to commemorate their milestone anniversary with a philanthropic act, NMTC sets a commendable example for other educational institutions and communities to follow.
Speaking on behalf of the institution, Madam Safura, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support the Nyohini Children's Home and reiterated NMTC's dedication to fostering a culture of social responsibility and community engagement among its members. She also encouraged the general public to extend their kind gesture to the orphanage as the children’s situation is a sad spectacle to behold.
The donation ceremony at the Nyohini Children's Home was met with warmth and appreciation from both the residents and staff, who welcomed the NMTC delegation with open arms.
As NMTC Tamale celebrates five decades of excellence in education, its commitment to humanitarian values remains rock-hard, reaffirming its status as not only an academic institution but also a pillar of support and compassion within the community.
The theme for the anniversary celebrations is “50 Years of Excellence in Nursing Education: The Contribution of NMTC – Tamale. The celebration has been punctuated with several academic, charity and fun activities.
