NDC will convert polytechnics to technical varsities - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama says his government, when retained in power in the upcoming elections, will expand the course structure and campus facilities at the various polytechnics in the country.

This, he said, will enable students undertake degree programmes upon completion of their High National Diploma (HND).

The president says the current situation where an HND certificate holder has to do two more years at a university before obtaining a degree is frustrating and not in the interest of education in the country.

Addressing students of the Koforidua Polytechnic in the Eastern region last night, President John Dramani Mahama said the NDC has opted to campaign on quality education because it believes that is the best for the country.

“You heard me in Ho when I spoke at the launch of our manifesto. Our intention is to improve faculty and infrastructure on all the ten Polytechnic campuses in order that we can upgrade them into full-fledged technical universities,” he said.

He said this process has been undertaken in countries like the United Kingdom so it is not going to be a new programme.
