Election 2012: Police Roll Out Plans For Voting Day

The Ghana Police Service has announced its readiness for the upcoming general elections.

The service rolled out a comprehensive plan of action for the December polls at a news conference in Accra on Wednesday.

To ensure that the upcoming elections are devoid of violence for fairness to prevail, the police service has designed measures to ensure its own efficiency.

Among these measures is the establishment of the national taskforce in charge of the organization, planning, monitoring and coordinating the security agencies in ensuring a safe environment for elections.

With regards to the issue of ‘macho men’ tampering with ballot boxes, Director General of Operations of the Police Service, John Kudalor says a sub- committee of police officials is in charge and that culprits would not be spared.

Director of Public affairs, of the service, DSP Cephas Arthur outlined some guidelines put together to ensure that police officials at polling stations comport themselves and do not interfere in the work of EC officials.

The police have made provisions for media centers where journalists can verify information gathered on Election Day before broadcast or publication.
