Prez Mahama urges EC to retrain staff on biometric voting

President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that its agents and staff are conversant with the use of the biometric verification system of voting before the country goes into another election.

The president says but for the patience of Ghanaians, the problems posed by the biometric system during the voting process could plunge the country into chaos.

Speaking at the 12 congregation of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), the president bemoaned the recent attack on media practitioners over election disputes.

“I dare say that the campaign leading up to the election itself can be said to be probably the most peaceful ever held in our country up to this point,” he said adding “but the glitches with the biometric verification machines almost marred the beauty of the election.”

“I think there is a need for training and retraining of personnel who handle these verification machines in order that we can have a smoother voting the next time,” President Mahama stressed.

He saluted Ghanaians for their patience and tolerance in the face of the technical hitches. He also urged the aggrieved parties in the elections to resort to proper channels to resolve their problem.

President Mahama said: “My message to all is that the elections are over; let us put it behind us and let us come together as one nation and build our beloved Ghana into a country that guarantees a decent and dignified life for all.”

The president also urged the graduating students to be dedicated to their various choice of work in order to achieve their aims in life

Among the graduands were the First Lady Mrs Lordina Mahama who obtained an MBA in governance and public administration as well as Samira Bawumia, wife of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, runnigmate to the NPP flagbearer.
