3 Member IMC for National Amputee Football Association

A three-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) has been outdoored in a brief but impressive press conference at the Media Centre of the Accra Stadium yesterday.

The committee chaired by Reverend Nii Amartey Adesah with support from Ignatius Elettey and Anthony Kwame Sosu has been tasked with a year’s mandate to restore the dwindling fortunes of amputee soccer in the country.

Chief Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Mr Erasmus Adokor, who stood in for the acting NSA boss Madam Alice Attipoe expressed the hope that the formation of the committee will find lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the Association.

He pointed out that the decision to form the committee emerged after a long brainstorming session by stakeholders in the Association.

The chief sports development officer gave the assurance that similar committees for other disciplines under disabled sports will emerge soon to ensure disabled sports realize its potential.

“All hands should be on deck to turn things around in disabled sports, the UK Paralympic Games served as an eye-opener and we will build on the positives to place amputee soccer on a higher pedestal,” said Adokor.

Committee chairman Rev. Amartey indicated that his doors would be opened to constructive ideas and suggestions as they strive to give the sport a phase lift.

He described his position as the chairman as an opportunity to serve amputee soccer and the entire nation.

But revealed that would be realized if corporate Ghana rally behind the Committee and amputee soccer by way of sponsorship.

Also present to grace the occasion were Bishop Cornelius Adja Coffie, president, Association of Disabled Sports and his lieutenant Mr Francis Adjetey Sowah.
