NGO calls for education among sports clubs

Mr Frank Kwesi Yao, President, Turf Cricket Academy (TCA), has appealed to owners of sports clubs to improve education standards of their members.

He said when this was done, members of sports clubs would achieve their goals.

Speaking at the end of year get-together of members of the club, Mr Yao said next year TCA would roll out a reading club which would be an hour exercise for all children in the academy.

“Let us encourage education in the sporting academies to help in the improvement of our youth’s education especially their English language”, he said.

He said the get-together was done annually and was an opportunity to say thank you to their sponsors.

Mr Yao said though cricket had not been given attention in Ghana as compared to the other disciplines, with the help of benevolent sponsors TCA was excelling.

“Our female players participated in a league where they won and this has been and continues to be a great achievement for us”, Mr Yao said.

He said the academy which could now boost of 150 kids all under the age of 19 and four coaches and major support comes from Ghana Cricket Association, Carl Bank, Accra Brewery Limited, Voltic, Brookman and Associates among other benevolent people.

Mr Yao appealed to the government and other stakeholders to support the cricket fraternity especially TCA.
