Gyan blames Ghana defence for DR Congo draw

Captain Asamoah Gyan accepts Ghana were slack in their defending in the 2-2 draw with DR Congo on Sunday.

The Black Stars threw away a two goal lead to share the points with the Leopards in the opening Group B fixture at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The disappointing result ha seen Ghana red-faced for a crucial win against Mali on Thursday to resurrect the side’s title ambitions in South Africa.

Gyan however in congratulating the DRC for their strong mentality in the fight-back admits the Black Stars should have done better to clinch the win. “Yes, I accept it (about Ghana being careless in conceding the two goals).

I’d say we lost a bit of concentration at the back and they came back and drew,” he said.

“But I would like to congratulate the Congolese, they did so well, they started the game so well bout our mentality was alright and we went up two goals.”

Ghana face old foes Mali in a must win game tomorrow and Gyan has admitted the slip against Congo should serve as guiding principle going into the game against the Eagles. “We have to go with the mentality of wining because the more you win, the more you qualify,” he told Ghanasoccernet.
