Sports Minister's Job On the Line?

Sports Minister, E.T. Mensah's preference for a local coach handle senior national football team could cost him his job if Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, the newly appointed head coach of Black Stars fails to click.

The Sport's Minister's belief was boosted last week when the Vice- President echoed it.

But what does the appointment of Coach Jones Attuquayefio mean to the life and position of the Sports Minister in particular? What it means is that the head coach must, and should succeed, under any circumstance to justify his appointment over a foreign coach.

The legitimate question that flows follows is, can Coach Jones Attuquayefio bring in the needed results?

Of course, Jones today is the most significant Ghanaian Coach. Not only has he considerable impact on performance he also quickly makes good players better ones. Coach Attuquayefio is a vocational coach who spends practically every hour evaluating how his changes can improve. He spends hours at home surfing football channels analysing players and moves, and deciding tactics.

Of course, the Advisory Committee made up of C.K. Gyamfi, Ben Kouffie and Sam Arday would doubtfully discharge their duties. It is hoped the local coaches will themselves see the appointment of Coach Jones Attuquayefio as a challenge, which must be won. Should Jones fail, E.T. Mensah cannot blame anyone but himself. And in that case might sink with the coach.

Mail sports sincerely, wishes the new Black Stars head coach, Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, alias Papa Asmara, the best of luck in his new job.
