Was he able to pay customers who have gone to their banking halls for their own deposited money. let's speak the truth and face facts. GN bank collapsed when Nduom sent all his money to go and open a bank in the USA when he could not honour cheques at his GN banks in Ghana. A lady was beaten in a banking hall by a security person in Ghana here when she had gone for her own deposited money, but she could not be paid and started making noise. some of us have not forgotten please Dr Nduom. A friend of mine paid money into a GN bank in Accra to be used to pay his workers in Tamale the following day. He got to the Tamale branch the next day, and he was told no cash for withdrawals. Was that a functioning bank. please fix yourself first.

The collapse of GN Bank was caused by Nduom and his family of one wife and three kids. GN Group had a total of sixty-seven companies both in Ghana and internationally. Nduom didn't want any other companies outside the Group to execute any contract from the Group. He wanted only his companies to do everything regarding the Group. While the Bank and hotels were doing well, all the other companies were not profitable. He transferred US$62million from GN Bank to start a bank in the U. S. without proper documentation. The news media companies, the printing press, the quarry, the Elmina Sharks football team and stadium, banks outside Ghana, the educational institutions, were all posting huge losses and draining the banks of funds. It was GN Bank itself that appealed to the BOG to downgrade the bank from Universal Bank to a Savings and Loans company, even before the decision of BOG to liquidate the bank. It is not true that gov't contractors owed GN Bank billions of Ghana Cedis. Dr. Nduom must for once tell the truth to Ghanaians. He and his directors and management collapsed his Empire and not Ken Ofori Atta as he is claiming.

Nduom had other finance companies that borrowed from GN bank to lend to mostly contractors who were executing government contracts with the sensible arrangement that the contractors payment will be routed through those companies so that the monies would be returned to the GN bank. GN bank was expecting far more than the threshold GHC400 million set by Bank of Ghana. However, Ofori Atta wickedly refused to pay the contractors thus artificially cutting off genuine repayment GN bank was expecting and creating the crisis for it. This wickedness is similar to how Unibank collapsed and has prematurely sent many contractors to their early graves.

Not meeting the new capital requirement alone wasn't enough to bring them down, granted that much of that money would be kept with the BoG anyway. There could have been mergers, just as Sanusi did in Nigeria, instead of closing them down or take overs.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Agyapadei plan to collapse GN Bank and Unibank too. The whole treatment was thus an orchestrated evil plot by the Akufo Addo cum Ofori Atta and Relatives plot to take control of the commanding heights of the economy, regardless of the huge cost to others and the nation of Ghana.

Examples abound in the world - (e.g. the USA, what Obama did to save the banks), as to how to handle banks and financial institutes and for that matter any profit-making corporate entity. For the law, the principle of piercing the veil, as old principle as the early profit making organization, could have been explored to save the banks and dealt with the owners who were perceived to have been hiding behind the veil to perpetuate the ills which necessitated their closure. Whatever the motive, everyone can see that the powers that be used a sledge hammer to smash the gooses which were laying the golden economic and development eggs. We are all witnesses to the effects of the closure of these local banks. Is it vindictiveness, envy or show of power. Whatever goes round comes round. Would you be in power forever? Would you close your businesses if another party comes to power. When will Ghana raise its first Bill Gate? It is well. There is hope.
