massa it is obvious that ghanaian comedians are having language challenges with speaking the english language frequently enough to make a joke flow and become interesting.....even radio and tv presenters make petty petty grammatical mistakes on air even tho they are graduates so u can imagine the lack confidence to mount platforms to stage credible and interesting comedies like the nigerians do.....it is only the agya koos, mr beautifuls, akrobotos, bob okallas ghana can afford bcos we dont respect english language in ghana at all even tho it is an official language....listen to footballer from other african countries being interviewed and u will be sad when compared to ghanaian footballers.....too bad...THEY ALL NEED FREE SHS BADLY.

Does English language matter? You do not need to speak queen's English to be a comedian. Many of the funniest Nigeria comedians speak pigging English. Take Fantis for example, when I was a boy growing up in Ghana we had 'concert' groups touring the country. Some of my generation will remember EK, Onyina to mention the few. They were funny. In fact, you would be be funny if you do not speak fante.
Comedy is a profession. we should start to nourish it.

I performed twice at the live audience interlude session at the just concluded MTN PROJECT FAME and was given a standing ovation to the glory of God.
Conclusively, I have performed and still performing at several high profile WEDDING RECEPTIONS, BIRTHDAYS, CONCERTS and CORPORATE FUNCTIONS nationwide which often have in attendance the likes of Chief Olusegun Osoba, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, Senator Anthony Adefuye, Prof. Ndi Okereke-Onyuike, Dr. Muiz Banire, Jay Jay Okocha, the Deputy Vice Chancellor National Open University of Nigeria, Special Adviser to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Social Amenities, amongst other top individuals.

It is good the writer admits that it is not because Ghanaians are not funny. The writer should look for 'Concert Party' tapes and watch. the issues are many but i will attempt a few. First, the Nigerians communicate in Pidgin which is in fact a creole for many Nigerians so they are comfortable rendering jokes in it. They do not have to be formally educated to mount a stage and make a formally educated audience laugh. And fortunately for them, Ghanaians understand, to a large degree, when the Nigerians speak their pidgin. Ghanaian pidgin, on the other hand, is not that developed so a comedian must either speak a local language, mainly twi or proper English, and that is the problem. In fact, u need to have some level of education to get around Ghanaian pidgin which is not the case with Nigeria. I am not in any way suggesting that Nigerian comedians are not educated, please. Many educated Ghanaians are yet to accept that they can have a degree and mount a stage and joke.In fact, but for the coming of KSM and a few others, comedy was hardly rendered in English in Ghana
So like the writer said, ordinary people from the ghettos and slums can give u good humour. So let comedy be rendered in Twi, for example, and see what will come out, I mean, exaclty what use to happen with Concert Party - the Nkomde, Ice Water, Santana, Agya Koo. Talking about Agya Koo, who will say he's not funny? But he can't speak English or even pidgin. So he can't partake of the MTN sponsored the Night of 1015 Laughs. See what I mean?
Second, Charter House has helped the Nigerians with their comedy shows, and there is this attitude in Ghana of promoting foreigners over locals. The Music industry is an example; they pay foreign artists huge sums and pay Ghanaians peanut. Let me end here for now.

Sorry, but the few Gh comedians that have been part of Naija shows in GH, were not funny to me as a Nigerian.
The GH audience laughed, but not till they cry like when a Naija one is on stage.
Also, i feel that GH comedians dont build their jokes up enough. i already know the punchline before they get there and they dont really have a funny way to tell it.
All i need to know is that a few Naija names in comedy are on a show, and I can guarantee I will laugh.
Nigeians are witty and quick thinkers......they can lead an audience like a snmake charmer and have them rolling on the floor. Their material is RELATABLE TO ALL......Nigerian, Ghanaian or otherwise.
They are not trying to be funny.....they just are...naturally.
Comedy in nigeria is also a business and a close knit community with contacts in all part of Nigerian media from Nollywood to music.
