The fact that NPP has its base in the Akan areas is not in itself bad or something to run away from. All over the world political parties have areas they draw their support from. Therefore being branded as a party of the majority ethnic group is not bad at all. But that does not mean it must be led always by a member from the majority group. If someone like Dr. Bawumia who is not an Akan but well liked by the Akans gets the support of the Akans to lead NPP it will help show the inclusiveness of the party and the openness of Akans. It will be a win-win situation for the country and all. However, in making such proposition, people should not be selling it from their own ethnocentric bais and make it seem as though it is compensating for their percieved righting some past wrong doings. After all the Akans and northerns have gotten along historically for centuries until Rawlings started to sow seeds of discord between us.

I do not have anything against Dr. Bawumia. Neither do I discriminate against any Ghanaian from any Region or tribe, but the issue is this;
If the petition that had been filed by them succeeds, then the petitioners have a brighter political future. But if it crumbles, then it crumbles with the political future of Dr. Bawumia.
As for Nana Akuffo Addo, if he wins the petition, and the leadership changes, good! if not, he would not decide to run again because of age.
As I commented already somewhere on this article, NPP has to look elsewhere apart from Kumasi and Kibi, for another leadership.
Tamale, is becoming a dominant Region but we have to go elsewhere. My best bet is to go to Accra, for a Ga-speaking leadership.
Another fertile ground is the Volta Region. We have learned personlities who are ardent supporters and members of The NPP. If they come up to run for the leadership, we should forget about anything and choose them. After-all, a political party is made up of people with the same or identical ideas who come together to win elections through the ballot box, but if the 'ballot box' is becoming a 'boxing box', then Nana Akuffo Addo , Dr. Mawumia and Hon. Jake , should fight 'tooth and nail' to retain its status of a 'ballot box' through the Supreme court.
Thank you Nana.
Thank Dr. Bawumia. and
Thank you, Hon. Jake Obestebi Lamptey.
God bless you and help you to succeed in all your endeavors!. Than you again. God Bless. Amen.

NPP is made up of mostly Akans, so we have many Akan candidates. Period.
When I was young, my parents were UP members, and at that time, I would be punished if I decided to join any other party apart from the UP, so the party membership was inculcated into us.
We grew up with the UP and so we, and now, most of us Akans, are automatic NPP members. It was injected automatically into our blood-stream.

Who are the Easteners? Do you think all people of Eastern region are Akyems? For instance, New Juaben (Koforidua) is part of Asanteman. Even the Nifahene of Akyem-Abuakwa (Asiakwahene) is an Asante royal and ancestral brother of the Asantehene. If the truth is to be said, then the people of Akadewaso, Moseaso, Gyegyeti(Jejeti),Enyiresi, Asaman Tamfoe, Mamanso, Kankang, Abekwoase and many other places in that region are Asantes. When did for instance, the people of Asamankese become Akyems? They are Akwamus (our Asante brothers).Do you think Asanteman only consists of Asante region? No, its far bigger than that! It consists of places in the Eastern region like New Juaben, places in the Volta region like Worawora, most areas of Bono-Ahafo region (formerly Western Asante region) and many other places. By the way, when did Volta region become an Ewe region. Ewes are the minority in that region (at least in the northern part of the Volta region). There are many Akan states, even Asante states in that region. How do you think names like Worawora, Nsuta or Oseikrom (Jasikan) came about?
Since, when do we have electins based on regions? The Asante region, in particular Kumase has the largest population density. If the whole of the Asante region+another region was to vote for a presidential candidate, it would be more than enought to obtain absolute majority. Why do you think, this misguided Nkrumah wanted to reduce voting power of Asantes? He tried to hive off a significant portion of our territoriy, but had to realize, that neither he nor any government had the power to do so. Therefore he shamefully went in for the political option.
Let NPP be an Akan party, then they do at least care for more than 50% of the entire population. Compare this with the Ewe party, which only represent a minority. Akans are the dominant force in Ghana and Ivory Coast, whether you like it or not!

The tiny minorities can team up as much as they want to, they will never become the majority. This is an empty promise once made by Rawlings, that the minority tribes would take over, once they come together against Akan and in particular Asantes. Where is Rawlings his promised land? tweah Let every single Akan vote for NPP and all non-Akans vote for NDC and the NDC will barely get 40%. The NDC knows this, that is why they are trying to divide Akans. Their strategy has always been divide and rule.
By the way, I am not a member of any political party. I dont even believe in this silly colonial institution called the "Republic of Ghana".

I studied Economics and Management in Germany. Was I a worse person, if I would not hold an University degree? How come Ghanaians do worship degrees so much?
I have family members, who are high ranking NPP members, others are high ranking NDC people. However, our family was born into the CPP tradition. One of our family houses in Kumase was the place where the founding members of CPP came to meet. Krobo Edusei had rented a room there. At that time he and his people were broke. They influenced most of our family into CPP. My late father became his first secretary (Propaganda secretary) and best man. My late father a trained engineer and member of the institute of technicians and engineers in london, was given a scholoarship and sent to Germany by the Nkrumah administration. They wanted to build cars in Ghana. Later on we broke with Nkrumah and the CPP. When something is wrong, we will not say its right. We are not hypocrites like the present day Nkrumah worshippers.
I dont support the idea of dividing one people "often of the same blood lineage" by artificial colonial boundaries. I don`t support an institution, which is based on the idealogoies of a colonial government. I have a problem with this whole system of "Westminster type" and "American type" of democracy in Africa. We have fashioned democracy without looking at our own peculiar systems of administration. We borrowed wholesale from the Western type of democracy without looking at our peculiarities as Africans, as Ghanaians. What was the system we were operating before the coming of the Europeans? How did we live, how did we govern ourselves before the coming of Western democracy? Who decides the four-year and five-year terms? Is it the people of Africa, of Ghana, or have we borrowed it because the Westminster type of democracy has a four-year or five-year term for the prime minister? Democracy had existed in Africa for aeons before the coming of the Europeans. We had our own system of governance which gave everybody the chance to air their views, people would call their own witnesses in judicial matters, we had our own systems of administration at the community and nation-state level, everywhere! And therefore, if we were fashioning this democratic, whatever it is now, couldn't we have looked at the circumstances within the African continent and designed some type of democracy that best suited Africa?
while traditional institutions’ roots are ancient, they are a repository of the history and the collective experience of a people. The history and the experience are the foundations on which solid modern institutions are built. Nothing emanates from a vacuum.Clearly, modernity requires more than mere institutions. It demands an evolution in the thinking of a people. Evolution in this sense is a gradual refinement of the fundamental ways of thinking and institutions of the people. Our post-colonial leaders did not seem to understand this fact. They adopted colonial institutions wholesale.
The problem for post-colonial African governments seeking to attain legitimacy is two-fold: One, the institutions they are basing their authority on are foreign. Two, since there were, and is, a multitude of traditional institutions with legitimacy and authority among the different ethnic communities in any given nation, it’s not efficient nor desirable, to have one uniform, blanket administrative approach in all regions. You do barely see a centralized republic in Europe. They do either have constitutional monarchies (such as Netherlands, UK, Spain, Norway, Denmark etc.) or federal republics (such as Germany). East Germany was a centralized republic, where everything was owned and controlled by the state and this led to what? A socialistic dictatorship!
t is no wonder then that most African constitutions are not quite worth the paper they are written on. Most start with an underlying premise that the people’s indigenous traditions, including their wisdom in matters of local governance, are best suppressed in favor of poorly understood foreign models.
With whom are you trading with, with your own people from Ivory Coast, Togo etc? No, you are dealing with your former colonial masters or should I say you allow yourself to be exploited. If there was a west-african regional trading block, we would be very powerful, but this is not the case. Small countries trying to negoiate with big industrial countries and will always lose, because they are politically weak. They even tell you what you have to produce and in what you have to invest. Look for instance, at the Bretton Woods System, its gone wrong. Yet you blindly copied it. Our so called illiterate ancestors were far more advance, than our present generation, which prides itself with having gone trhough western education. Africa is very mighty, but we are making it weak by not believing in ourselves!

Now after the so called fulanis struggled and registered the NPP headed by Akof Addo then went to the Zongos asking for votes."Short sighted" as you said ,nobody in the NPP envisaged that if the so called Fulanis succeded in registering their votes would be needed or it was just sheer stupid Ashanti arogance. You see Kwasi Agyemang's thinking tells alot about his destinational up bringing and like the saying goes "No matter how you clean a swine (pig)in your home it would go eat shit and even sleep in it"I mean no matter how much resources is used to educate(degree) people like Agyemang they remain appalingly stupid in thinking.Kwadow what he wrote can creat a very big tribal problem.May we have more people like you to continue to talk sense into such imbiciles.

What this passage reflect is the persons mind set which appears to be so twisted I cannot even begin to understand what he is trying to point at. In these day and age, and where Ghana as a whole and our political system has reached, it is unthinkable for any person to think about tribal politics. The article is historically deficient, and shows the lack of knowledge of the writer. The word UNITED PARTY should in itself teach this guy that he is completely wrong. Secondly, NPP is not an AKAN party, plain and simple. The fact that their major voting block is the Eastern and Ashanti region does not make the party an Akan Party. Why has this confused guy bought into the propaganda of NDC and illiterates? Who at all is are the Akans? Ha of of Volta region calls themselves Akans. Southern part of the Norhern region, has large population of people who call themselves Akans, Brong Ahafo, Central, and Western Regions are said to be Akans. Presently, greater Accra population probably has more Akan leaning people than there are Gas and Adamgbes. The time has come for our country to move away from such parochial and tribalistic thinking, and seek to reward merit based on competence, no matter where the person comes from. Wining an election by a party depend on numbers. Therefore to alienate certain blocks because of people who think like this guy is outrageous. I am convinced the large majority of people who affiliate with the NPP do not buy what this confused guy is saying. Let us developed a system that all that are qualified and competent compete on equal footing. It might take a little while but certainly such rhetoric does not help and should not be encouraged.

You are very right but the issue is, can it be experimented to allow candidates from other areas/ Regions to lead the party?
For example, one loyal group which the party leaders should focus seriously on, is the Ga-speaking base.
History has it that the NPP and its mother party have always had a strong affiliation/ ties with the Gas: For example, The UGCC had memebers like the late Hon. Mr. Obestebi Lamptey, Paa Grant and Mr. Ako Adjei and even now, we still have an NPP stewalt in the person of the current indispensable Chairman, Hon Jake Obestebi Lamptey, so if the NPP has tried and Asante,- Mr. JK Kufour, and Akyem, Nana Akuffo Addo, then, the next group that we have to consider seriously to pick a candidate from is the Ga speaking area, but the issue is, do we have such a formidable and charismatic candidature?
Now it seems the candidates from the North are taking candidates from the rest of the regions at ransom. There is the need to break this trend and focus on candidates from other areas.

What are the core values of the NPP? To me it is party that stands for individual liberty and free enterprise. It is a party that seeks to create wealth and not distribute or destroy wealth. These are the core values that should distinguish the NPP from the NDC.
The candidate who is and was best suited to articulate this vision is Alan K. The party machinery doomed his candidacy.
The campaign to unseat President Mahama must begin now. The entire leadership of the NPP must be swept away by the winds of change. Two time Presidential losers never make it. Akufo Addo must cede the political scene and allow a post independence born candidate lead the party. There are peolple with the ideals of the NPP who stand ready to move the party in a different direction
Nana's defeat was forseen. He lost on strategy. Once President Atta Mills died, his runing mate Bawumia became a non-factor. If I were Nana's campaign Manager at the time I would have asked Bawumia to resign "on health" grounds and replced him with regional candidate from B/A. Politics is about wining and numbers. NPP simply played a B game against an A team.
The court case is a loser and Nana is trying to save face and take the party down with him. He did lose by at least 200,000 votes.

Akan, also known as Twi [t??i] and Fante, is the ancestral language of the Akan people and the principal native and official language of Akanland, spoken by 99% of Akans in Akanland. Akan is spoken in Ghana, and among 30% of the population of Ivory Coast. Three dialects have been developed as literary standards with distinct orthographies, Asante, Akuapem (together called Twi), and Fante, which despite being mutually intelligible were inaccessible in written form to speakers of the other standards. In 1978 the Akan Orthography Committee (AOC) established a common orthography for all of Akan, which is used as the medium of instruction in primary school by speakers of several other Akan languages such as Anyi, Sefwi and Ahanta.
The Akan people and those who have either lived around Akans or have absorbed Akan people into their population speak Kwa languages, of which Twi/Fante is just one. Twi–Fante consists of the following dialects:
Asante (Ashanti), which together with Akuapem and Akyem is commonly called Twi
Akuapem (Akwapem)
Akyem
Agona (commonly considered Fante)
Kwahu
Wassa
Fante (Fanti or Mfantse:Anomabo, Abura, Gomua) - Spoken in Central Akanland along the east coast of Akanland.
Brong - Spoken in Akanland Brong Ahafo and along the border in Ivory Coast.
The Akan Orthography Committee has compiled a unified orthography of 20,000 words.
The adinkra symbols are old ideograms.
The language came to the Caribbean and South America, notably in Suriname spoken by the Ndyuka and in Jamaica by the Jamaican Maroons known as Coromantee, with enslaved people from the region. The descendants of escaped slaves in the interior of Suriname and the Maroons in Jamaica still use a form of this language, including Akan naming convention, in which children are named after the day of the week on which they are born, e.g. Akwasi (for a boy) or Akosua (girl) born on a Sunday. In Jamaica and Suriname the Anansi spider stories are well known

For once lets move away and the fruits will bear testimony. NDC went from Volta -Central - North and it has proved succesful.Very soon they may move to select a flag bearer from Ashanti later to Eastern and the tsunami of the 'our Akan base" voting en block for them would be the last straw.

Don't even tread on such grounds because all the big guns will turn toward you; don't even tread on these grounds because you will be effectively singling out the NPP as a racist and biased party which Nana Akufo Addo has shown otherwise. It is rather charismatic and honest leaders who can transform our lives for the better that we need and even if such a leader is Ewe and comes from the Volta Region we will gladly embrace him. If, GOD forbid, that by the unlikely chance that we as NPP lose the case in court and Nana refuses to run again and the turn falls on Bawumiah, I, personally, will leave no stone unturned to make sure that he wins the primaries. So please do not belittle yourself with such nonsense because in your futile attempt to show your wisdom, which you seem to lack, you look all the more stupid!!!
