If loop holes are plugged in the company and corruption minimized in the companies proving electricity services in the country, there will be more than enough money to upgrade and still make huge profit. Increasing tariffs is the easier but not the most effective of dealing with the problem. Electricity and Water should be considered services and not money making business providing share holders with dividends. This is P/NDC, the so-called party of the common man. Why should they allow them to suggest what they are suggesting. Drag them to Arrakan Barracks to cough all the money they stole from the electricity company.

Instead of keeping a staff to man the control room of the power stations 24/7/52 weeks and avoid fuse blowing that leads to power cuts, GHANA ELECTRICITY CORPORATION is indirectly asking for hike in the electricity price to pay its over-time staff some of whom leave the power stations unattended to look for money else where for fuse to blow. THIS BEHAVIOUR IS UNACCEPTABLE. IF THEY CAN NOT DO THE WORK, THEY SHOULD NOT TAKE IT UP....period.
If DOCTORS & NURSES LEAVE HOSPITALS TO LOOK FOR MONEY ELSE WHERE WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE AT WORK, WHAT WOULD HAPPEN?
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS must be sacked followed by their Managers until the workers sit up or they all go and replaced.

VRA and ECG are two clowns (I'm sorry but that's my impression about them) in Ghana. Their service is very poor to say the least. They are considered two of the MOST incompetent organisations in Ghana.

The question I want to ask is this: "Will the increase in tariffs per se bring about improved services?" Another question is what measures have they taken to collect their debts? The GoG has directed that all MDAs should get pre-paid meters and ECG is afraid to go and install the meters? It is simply a matter of incompetence.

A friend was last time saying that from the performance of the ECG, most, if not all their technicians and engineers are truck pushers.

They have a lot to do to redeem themselves.

ECG and VRA, collect all the arrears owed you first. You will have more than enough to meet your costs, and there will be no need to raise tariffs.

The ordinary Ghanaian is suffering because of your inaction over arrears owed to you. You should issue an ultimatum to defaulters and cut off electricity to any customers who do not pay up. This coupled with court action in a few well-publicised cases should impress on customers the need to pay promptly for electricity.
