  I think this is a step in the right direction by the chamber. A network of stake holders and industry professionals is very necessary to facilitate the development of our mining sector especially in other minerals which are least explored. There has been mining activities in Ghana for over a century now and there are only few of such initiatives to to bring together key players in the industry as compared to Oil which we had in commercial quantities only a few years back. If CWC with GIPC could already have their 4th Oil and Gas summit in only some two and a half years of production then I think less is done in the mining sector which has been in existence for so long. I also think the minister should address the issue of small scale mining in the country. Neglecting it and making small scale mining look terrible in the sight of every Ghanaian is not the answer. its an industry that contributes 20% of the total mining output. The truth is you cannot totally seize a person born on the sea shores from swimming in the sea because its dangerous. The ministry should look at better ways to help the ordinary Ghanaian. Concessions given through the minerals commission are useless and bogus and has no geological information which the small miner can use. I think The ministry should as well do their best to make sure concesssions given out have been prospected and at least there is enough geological literature for those who apply to work on it. The focus of the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of mines , the minerals commission has always been on large scale foreign investors but the truth is all their gold is sent back to their refineries in their various countries. You set up PMMC to buy gold from small miners and yet instead of helping them with solutions that will enable them adapt better and safer methods of mining you set up a minerals Commision that charges Ghc200.00 for a common piece of paper to write your name to apply for a concession which only God knows whether there is anything on it and even if so how economical will is it?
  
  
  Financing for projects in small scale mining is just impossible because the risk is too huge . Most individuals operate with very little capital and the cost of renting of machinery increases by site location. My point on this is if concessions were already prospected with estimated quantity of mineral(in this case gold) on it, The small miner knows what he is getting into and it will be easier to asseess finance for such projects otherwise the only way out will be to put Chinese men who have both equipment and finance.
