Various governments,apart from the government of the PNDC,have played politics with the railways and that is why the railways has sunk so low.The railway is operating from Takoradi to Nsuta,Tema to Accra,Accra to Nsawam.The rest of the lines are in bad shape i.e 90% of the lines cannot be used and how can the company pay its over 2000 workforce from little service it currently run?The workers are starving.They have not been paid for Jan,Febr,Mar and soon April.The way out is for the current government to pay the workers off and take time to revamp the system.

The President has done its best but for how long can he continue given out large amount of money to the workers as salaries?
Building of railways everywhere in the world is very expensive,but if you invest heavily in it and you operate it efficiently you will reap massive benefits.The benefits are immense,both socially and economically.
You need to invest massively in these 3 areas;(1)infrastructure(the track,signal&telecommunication, maintenance shops,stations buildings etc.)(2)the rolling stock(locomotives,wagons,gang trolleys,breakdown cranes etc.)(3)and last but not the least well trained staff.Anything short of these three main areas will be a disaster.All three should be tackled simultaneously.
The PNDC government,with the assistance of the World Bank in 1983 invested in these three main areas and succeeded in revamping the railway to some extent.Succeeding governments could not maintain the momentum hence the present bad state of our railways.Any investment in railways(I hope the Chinese are listening)that fails to recognize these three important areas is bound to fail.
The railway workers are currently starving.They have not been paid their salaries for Jan,Feb,Mar through no fault of theirs.Both NDC and NPP governments failed to help them in those three areas mentioned.
Their trains now run from Takoradi to Nsuta,Tema to Accra,Accra to Nsawam only.90% of its track network is not operational because the tracks are bad.Even the 10% network that is operational has no communication.Station masters cannot communicate with each other,leading to delays in the dispatch of trains.
The current government,instead of doling out money every month to pay workers salary should rather pay the workers off and take time to revamp the railways.No politics should be in this.Government cannot continue to be father christmas.Hon. Dzifa Ativor you have done your best for railway workers.Time to call a spade a spade.

The workers should be asking themselves: what did we do to "Ghana Railways". if they think they can run down all state organisations and still expect the taxpayer to pay them for work not done then they are dreaming. No Maham ...
