The media is the mouthpiece of the people and it is through the media that all the fraudulent deals and corrupt practices of Mahama and his gang of unscrupulous touts can be exposed because left to Mahama and his corrupt cohorts alone transparency and accountability should only be on the lips but not put in practice. Thanks Mr Martin Amidu.
The issue of the handling of the boxes and the pink sheets exposes the serious incompetence of the supreme court judges lead by Atuguba. I wonder how judges who cannot handle simple administrative tasks such as protect tended evidence and lack simple arithmetic skills can rise up to the positions they are occupying. It is know wonder Ghana is still below a developing country.
Whenever I follow the courts proceedings I feel some uneasiness at the degree at which there is lack of sharp thinking, logical analysis, incoherence and superficiality being exhibited. Some of them pretend to be make a point but the sentences are not clear and coherent. How can these characters who are superficial in their reasoning rise up to the positions they occupy say much about the country and those managing it.

Secondly if you Atuguba stop being bias, because your utterances and body language expose your loyalty to NDC, but rather being fair to all parties, people will stop chastising and accusing you of doing this today and that tomorrow. I don't also think that the claim by Daily Guide that the missing pink sheets box was in your custody is mere fabrication or figment of someone's own imagination.

Why do we always have to think that when the media report on armed robbery, murder or say rape it's true, but when they write about the misdeeds of the President or a Supreme Court judge then the story lacks credibility as they always say.

It does NOT take a law degree to underdstand what's happening in the Supreme Court. He MUST do his job and leave the media alone to do their own. At the end of the day, the people are focused on the issues before the court, not in the media.

The people know now when a witness in the box reluctantly ADMIT irregularities and "errors", or when witnesses in the box tell the nation "I'm not a lawyer" when questions put to them did NOT seek to enquire if they were lawyers or not.

When Justice Atuguba pick ONLY statements from petitioners as subject of jokes, the media did not have to report it in order for the people know where he stands.

People in the legal profession address themselves as "learned persons". I can tell them that one does not even have to undergo any academic scrutiny to be a "learned" person. Long before the emergence of the Supreme Court system, our elders were handling litigations impatially, even though they had NO LAW DEGREES. So, Atuguba should not deceive himself by thinking that people without law background have no clue of what's happening in the electoral petition case before the court, because media imputs or otherwise, the people are wise and knowledgeable enough to make sense of what's happening in that court room. Take heed of this Mr Justice Atuguba!!!

The presiding judge said nowhere that "media's uncontrolled power..." will be curtailed. This is what he said:-

He says they have given several warnings but have not taken action.

Unacceptable statements made by counsel and the media. They will not accept the situation.

Accordingly they have taken the position that any person be it in the media or not who crosses the final touchline of proper coverage reportage will be met with the appropriate response. He says that is uphold the authority of the state.

He cites a Daily Guide report which made reference to a found box of pink sheets in his custody. That report is unacceptable, he adds. He also makes reference to the contents of the final report by KPMG which is already in the public domain when the court has not received it. Case adjourned to Wednesday, June 26..

The constitution thereby grants each individual whether young or old the right to unfettered freedom to express himself/herself.
Such expression may either be plausible or caustic but are permitted under the ambles of the constitution.

It is rather odd for an officer of the courts who has sworn to defend the constitution to issue threat to deal with such free expression of speech and ideas.

Justice Atuguba please revisit the constution.

They did that before the end of 2012 elections by declaring Nana a winner. This made it easy for them to gain support of some unsuspecting Ghanaians when they started shouting foul.

Is NPP not Busia's PP? And is PP not of the Kulungu/Flag Staff House/Stadium/Arena etc. bomb throwers? Now they have turned to burning markets. They are unsympathetic at all.

This threat sounds hollow indeed. What punitive sanctions can the Sc impose on the journalists and the media houses? The Ghanaian lawyers do not abide by the principle of sub judice. Gloria Akuffo and Ato Dadzie have been running their own commentaries. The whole episode has been such a comic farce. It was meant to show case a mature democracy and the intellectual brilliance of law men. What we have been treated to are temper tantrums from counsel and ineloquent speeches from the bench. It has ceased to be a land mark case. It has become a circus and some comedy show with "order in court"

The presiding judge said nowhere that "media's uncontrolled power..." will be curtailed. This is what he said:-

He says they have given several warnings but have not taken action.

Unacceptable statements made by counsel and the media. They will not accept the situation.

Accordingly they have taken the position that any person be it in the media or not who crosses the final touchline of proper coverage reportage will be met with the appropriate response. He says that is uphold the authority of the state.

He cites a Daily Guide report which made reference to a found box of pink sheets in his custody. That report is unacceptable, he adds. He also makes reference to the contents of the final report by KPMG which is already in the public domain when the court has not received it. Case adjourned to Wednesday, June 26..

The court's job is not to punish the media. Its job is to control its court room, if it sees a violation of any of its rules.

In a democracy with free speech, unless there is some real, present and serious danger resulting from the "misreporting", the law cannot punish free speech. There are consumers for "misreporting". There are idiots who believe everything they see in print. That's their prerogative.

Also, there are other reporters who do not "misreport", so there is a balance offered in the media to its consumers. If the court deems it sufficiently important to correct the "misreporting", it should have its own news arm, and get a press statement released by a court's spokesperson, or have its own PR office issue a daily summary of the proceedings to the public. That's what you do to ensure your own accurate version of the proceedings gets disseminated to the public. It is a service the court owes the public, anyway. Soon, if savvy and sensible readers compare the official version to the the "misreported" version, they will then choose not to buy the papers that "misreport". That’s how you develop, and progressively root out the poor reporting and sensationalist press.

Besides, I am certain there is no such crime on our law books known as "misreporting", so how do you punish it? This goes to show how dangerous the anomalies in our judicial system can be, where we make ill-considered rules out of temporary frustrations.

Furthermore, what exactly does the Judge mean by “any person . . . who crosses the final touchline of proper coverage reportage”? Who determines what is proper coverage? Do we have a scientific, measurable and set standard that qualifies as “proper coverage reportage”, whatever that means?

The court is not to make ad-hoc rules and legislation from the bench simply because it is frustrated by some misinformed reporter who does not fully understand, and therefore reports inaccurately, the seemingly arcane proceedings and processes. If the reporter does not understand the proceedings, and "misreports" it, it is not a criminal act to be punished. How do you determine whether “misreported” if his defense is that he understood what he reported to be the truth and to his mind, it was accurate. Is the court, now legislating a new crime? Is this newly bench-created crime of “misreporting” a specific intent crime, not requiring actual intent of wrong doing?

No one get's punished for their idiocy, otherwise the Supreme Court's own members would be in jail!!! There are too many half-wits running this country, who make rash decisions because they arrogate to themselves powers they do not have. And that's our biggest problem. Someone please tell this ignorant Judge the basic rule of governance: The Supreme Court does not have the power to legislate new laws. That's the province of the legislature.
