Whenever university/polytechnic teachers go on strike while collecting their salaries, it is innocent students who suffer. So if any of these educated strike-mongers, like students, should embark on any unnecessary strike actions, their salaries must also be suspended with immediate effect for the sake of the aggrieved and suffering students.

If the government invest in programs that are irrelevant for the economic development of the country the country will be at a loss, irrespective of the amount of resources allocated. If we invest in programs or courses which do not impart skills and knowledge which can be used in the country we will still be in the dark. Secondly there is lot of redundancy or duplication of programs, e.g. each of the country’s old universities have business administration programs; how many business graduates can be absorbed by the economy, The government universities churn out over 15,000 graduates each year with varying skills and knowledge from mediocre to fair. Who is going to waste his/her money on employing graduates who cannot fairly communicate verbally or in writing, graduates who lack analytical and problem solving skills; some of these graduates don’t even possess the basic knowledge of their major fields of study. What are we teaching the children at elementary and secondary schools? How is knowledge being imparted? If college students can purchase some old photo-copied notes of their lecturers, chew and pour them without understanding the course material how do you expect them to perform in the real world.
The government should set up a committee to revamp education at each level; emphasizing on quality relevant education instead of mass production of illiterate (excuse me to say “not very uselful”) graduates and school children. We may need more technical and two-year colleges instead of 4-year useless programs.

I wonder if Mr. Paul Krampah has taught in the university before or has ever taught in a Nursery, KG, Primary, JHS, or SHS.
If he has, he will know that to teach, you need reference books and other materials.
He is showing his ignorance by focusing on the research component of the book and research allowance conveniently (or ignorantly? or deliberately?)without mentioning the book component.
It will do him good to ask a friend who is a lecturer in a university to educate him on what goes into teaching in a university.
Mr. PRO, it is not too late for you to learn what goes on in the various sectors of your ministry.

What is the mystery surrounding teaching in the University? You have empirical evidence to show that at at least most lecturers annually use their book allowance to buy books? What is the fetish about reference books? You have done a research that shows that the lesson notes of most lecturers, at least, are updated annually? Teaching in the University, a lecturer said is easier than in the primary school. You doubt? Find out.
Well if they need reference books then why would they not use their money to buy the books and keep in their departments to be using them? Why are your nervous about the research component and seem justify the book allowance? We are destroying our economy with these demands which we could do without

Apple, do check how much it costs to publish in a journal. Then think of how many papers a researcher has to read in order to write a paper. Rem that journals must be subscribed to. Take into consideration a caveat in the universities publish or perish. This issue of BRA has become a vicious cycle that must be broken. You complain lesson notes are not updated annually yet when a person asks for BRA in order to do that you deny that person. You cannot reap where you have not sown

UTAD should publish their research findings. These lazy maggots only draw the research and book allowance for doing absolutely nothing.

POTAG and UTAG members are not against the establishment of Research Fund. However the Research Fund cannot replace the Book and Research Allowances. The two should co exist.UTAG and POTAG maintain that the Book and Research Allowances form part of the conditions of service for lecturers. The Government therefore cannot unilaterally scrap these allowances.UTAG and POTAG indeed have a strong case. They have to use every legitimate means to stop the government from abolishing the Book and Research allowances. What the government needs to do is to reconsider its decision to employ almost 1000 workers in the Presidency alone.Job for the boys indeed. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.Ghana does not belong to only Politicians.

People talk without knowing how the allowance is yearly. The monthly fuel allowance of a dep. Min. Is higher than what they are paid yearly.
