John Dramani Mahama has no shame and no credibility otherwise he would have appointed this one and only good NDC man Attorney General, not today or yesterday but the very day he assumed the mantle of leadership of this country. But alas, he himself is soiled with corruption big time, hence wouldn't want somebody like Amidu looking over his shoulders. The only way Mahama can win the trust, respect and confidence of the people back in fighting corruption, is to get this man back as soon as possible in the AG's department. Anything less than that is just lip service.

I guess we can even call it "African style" system if that works well for us. What might be very important is that any chosen system can result in what we intend to achieve as our "goal" if "we" believe in the system. You all think Kufour did better but without HIPC the country would have been worst off. Prempeh does not have to reiterate to us about Presidential and parliamentary system. We all know all about it and there is nothing he can say or write to change our system of governance. What has he done all this time? Do you know the amount of loans the Government has contracted? What do we see? Any thing to show for all the loans. We live in a country where the major road linking the 2 biggest cities has for over 40 years NOT BEEN done. Years back, 1966 to be precise, the ACCRA-KUMASI ROAD was still under contract. I was in Sec School form 1 by then in the Eastern Region. Are we not ashamed that to date this road is still under construction. And yet we do not see anything wrong with our society. Every 4 years we queue to vote for changes, and the result is very much the same IF NOT WORSE. A poor man steal, and he is swiftly arrested, prosecuted and jailed, .. lengthy sentence, and yet we have cases going on in the courts for YEARS just because they big men. The whole society is ROTTEN. Do not forget that some people were PERCEIVED to be CORRUPT because they have USED their positions to ACQUIRE LOANS form the banks. What happened to them is HISTORY. Can you honestly tell youself that YOU ARE OKAY WITH THE GOINGS-ON in the country? This is not NDC/NPP or whatever? I live in UK and I can tell you that the LAW IS NOT A RESPECTOR OF PERSONS, PARTIES, TRIBES, okay. Until we hold our Leaders accountable AND NOT TO continue to look at their performance through the PARTY, TRIBAL etc. LENSES, THERE WILL BE NO HOPE.

True. Mahama's govt hasn't helped Ghana.But it was Kuffour's corrupt practices which prevented another NPP term. He did well initially then resorted to overt corruption when he knew he was leaving.
You also can't blame Mahama without blaming NPP infighting.
Please understand that being a political rival is not the same as being an enemy. NPP has not understood this principle and the ghost of the UP-CPP traditions keeps showing its ugly head within the party from time to time.NPP, please lay that ghost to rest. Ghana is much bigger than those personalities you are so enamored about.
Akuffo-Addo, Alan Kyeremanten, etc will not live forever, but we need to preserve Ghana for generations and generations to come.

Now this presupposes such a system does not lend itself to certainty and operates in a system of probabilities on the strength of "it could, it might" engineer some change. That is a myopic view of looking at the governance structure and factoring in all the variables as opposed to in this case a singular issue of leadership change.
Now since this is by far one of the most ineffective and performance averse leadership crisis ever to have hit the country, can it be looked at from the perspective of introducing midterm elections as pertains in the greatest democracy in the country in which Prof. Prempeh finds himself without necessarily introducing a whole new governance structure predicated by a monarchial institution of which Ghana does not have, unless it is one in which we intend to adopt, which in itself would further worsen the woes and plight of Ghanaians.
The English Westminster type of parliamentary governance could come with its own problems and it is not a foolproof system.
And also to assume that there's no challenge to the leadership within a party is a flawed view if events in the NPP is anything to go by. Inherently there are systems to ensuring a recalibration of the governance structure and at the national level, this can be replicated without necessarily jettisoning our presidential system of govt.

So far since independence Kwame, Acheampong (though he lost his way) and Kuffuor are the only persons who have made significant into the life of Ghana and their deeds are there for everyone to see. I have a feeling most comments above have been made by people who are too young to know what has happened in this country or are simply anti Ashanti. What those with inordinate ambition to see themselves at the helm of affairs must know is that, President Mahama was just elected democratically and popularly to be in charge. What this meant and continues to mean is that all these people who want us to believe that they possess the magic wand to solve Ghana's problems were bypassed by the good people Ghana to decisively choose John Dramani Mahama to be president. It is therefore necessary that these disillusionaries shut up and give the man who carries the people's mandate peace to work and deliver.
We all know the reason why such people despise the president is because of where the president happens to come from. They cannot come to terms with the fact that someone from the North and indeed from Bole is the first gentleman of the land. This was the same thing they did to the late president Liman who also happened to come from the North. The bad atmosphere they created for Liman was what made it possible for Rawlings' coup to tale place. This time, being wiser, such a thing will never (and indeed will not be allowed to) happen. President Mahama will surely complete his 4-year term and in 2016 the good people of Ghana will renew his mandate. No one should therefore distract rhe president.

Ghana turned republic on 1 July 1960 and the legislative gov't ceased. In 1969 the 2nd republic led by Dr Busia PP gov't failed to sustain. In 1979 we returned to executive gov't. From January 2000 to December 2008, NPP was in power and none of these biased constitutional lawyers or professors voiced out or proposed UK style of government. It's only when NPP or supporter in opposition do they criticize and point dirty fingers. JA Kufour replaced Dr Kwaku Afriyie with Courage Quashiga at health, who dared rebuked him? Where was this so-called Prof. Kwasi Prempeh when the incompetent, tribalistic, nepotic and most corrupt President in the history of Ghana in the person of John Kufuor was the President. Kufuor spent most of his presidency just travelling around and not bring back a single meaningful investment. To Prof. Prempeh, that was alright and because Kufuor was as Ashanti he was a good leader. Stupid people like Prof. Prempeh should just give us a break with their tribalistic way of thinking.
