As for the argument about re-denomination coming from the camp of the NDC and their allies like Bernard Mornah l'll say these arguments are from little brains, lazy minds that don't think. They prefer to see the old ways of carrying bulk monies around which get attracted by armed robbers and not safe for business because they have no interest in creating businesses of their own. They prefer to move from radio station to radio station and talk and just depend on government. If they truly think knocking off zeros from the cedi is the reason for this hopeless economy then the solution is easy, the government should just start adding the zeros to any new currency printed, and gradually face out the ones with less zeros. Useless minds turning themselves into selfish opinion leaders.

To answer this question, let us examine the value of the Dollar. The Dollar is backed by goods and services. The USA is a center of ingenuity and practical applications. The US has a big internal market run by computerized systems. It is easy to track the movement of money. The same can be said for Germany, China and Japan. They are always producing something and creating wealth in the process. Time is money. If the Cedi is not backed by the production of goods, the generation of valuable social services which are well accounted for, it will lose its value. We must generate quality products in as many economic areas as possible and sell them properly. Music, Art, industrial goods, etc. Keep the people busy, producing QUALITY products in different areas and the CEDI will rise. It should not rise too high otherwise,our exports become too expensive.

If you are broke, one easy way to reverse your poor situation is to sell off some your priceless assets (if you have any) and use the proceeds from the sale of the asset to bail yourself out. The NPP encountered the same poor economic situation during Kuffour's time. They however were able to come out of it because they TOOK THE SHORT CUT APPROACH to resolve the problem. They started selling off some the most vital Government assets in the country, GH TELECOM, ASHANTI GOLDFIELDS. ETC. The proceeds from all these sales brought in billions of dollars into the National coffers. This time Mahama is not doing that. He is refusing to sell off our national assets to bails us from the mess we find ourselves in. So you see, the so called Economics gurus who managed the economy during Kuffour's time were not kurus after all. They only took short cuts but did not solve the fundamental issues facing the economy. Perhaps Mahama is not following their footsteps that because of the lessons we are learning from say, Ashanti Gold Mines. The Angloashanti Corporation which bought Ashanti Gold Mines have now closed the Obuasi Mines and laid of several thousands of employees. This is certainly going to add to the high unemployment rate we have now. The solution is simply to shore up our foreign currency reserves through productive activities and not through the sale of assets; and at the same time substitute a lot of our consumer goods imports with local products so as to put a stop on the drain we have on our foreign currency reserves.

Where did this Bewumia guy get his PhD in economics from? Most laymen know that if a country does not manufacture and export goods and services, but relies solely on export of natural resources, without processing and adding value prior to export, that country's currency will only depreciate over time, no matter what it does to stop it. Don’t forget that Ghana is essentially a “buy and sell” nation, importing almost every product from basic food items such as rice to cars to pharmaceuticals. Statements like "Ghana is in Crisis" do not help Ghana either, as they only go to alienate more foreign investors and as a consequence worsen the economic situation.

How much debt did NPP leave in office. How can you run a government on debt. Just like TOR. When TOR took over the importation of crude and market of products from GNPC in 1986, there was no working capital and that has contributed largely to the woes of TOR. We should not blame the present government entirely because NPP left a huge debt and lots of uncompleted projects.

DOctors know their patients and the kind of prescription they might need.

In your heart of hearts at the time of redenomination was there reason to suggest that the cedi can be stronger than the $ other than political reasons? My humble advise is for you to stay away from this subject.
