The recommendations made at this workshop should not be swept under the carpet.If we don't take the study of agriculture seriously in Ghana,then,we should forget about the industrial revolution we are talking about.The study of agricultural science has totally decline in our schools because agricultural science is not taught as an examinable subject at the basic level so all that know about agriculture is to weed of which pupils are not prepared to study.Let's sit down as a nation and know what went wrong in our educational curriculum and correct it for people to enjoy the study of the subject.G.E.S itself should put their heads in shame for collapsing the study of agriculture in our schools.

This is what will happen when you propose and implement wrong policies. Many students develop the interest in agriculture right from JHS but this subject is out of the syllabus now. Again Agriculture is an applied Science where you expect students to read physics, chemistry and biology but you don't only stock the department with average and far below average students while their colleagues who perform far above average and excellently are given other courses to pursue. Furthermore if agriculture students cannot compete with their colleagues in the job sector because of preferences why will students be interested in reading the course at tertiary levels. What happened during the 2016 teachers recruitment exercise when politicians who weren't agriculture bias were preventing recruitment of agriculture students from the universities???

Agric educcation must be sent to technical schools. That is what is done in most civilized countries. Agrculture, like any other profession, has the scholars/theorists and activists/practitioners. Those who want to be Agric practitioners/activists should go to the technical schools whiles those who want to be Agric theorists and scholars should go to the SHS and read science. This is what will solve the problem. It is unfortunate our universities teach students theory and at the same time want them to go and practice.
