Jerry John Rawlings has stated that greed among some party members led to their loss in the 2016 general elections. He claimed corruption increased to insane levels under John Mahama and accused them of departing from the values of probity and accountability which formed the basis under which the party was formed. According to him, it was mainly because of the corruption that the NDC lost power to the governing New Patriotic Party.

  I cannot understand why one person can steal millions of Ghana Cedis and he will be asked to refund and that ends the case, while a poor hungry man steals some cassava he is jailed five years. And just kokro deka, one goes also for five years. Why?
  
  They must be put before court as well, otherwise, let's forget about fighting corruption and those found out be asked to pay!
