That huge amount given to the MPs should be stopped with immediate effect. More money enter the scheme that the number of subscribers. Management should check the loopholes. Majority of the NHIS offices aren't working current ...

Ghanaians want everything good in life but don't want to pay for it. They want free this, and free that; looking up to the government to subsidize their loose lifestyle. Healthcare is very expensive and countries that provide this service to citizens do so by taxing them heavily. The marginal tax rates in the Scandinavian countries that offer this service to their citizens are through the roof. In Denmark for instance, the marginal tax rate is 73 cents for every dollar a worker earns, and in Sweden, 87 cents for every dollar a worker receives. Finland, another Scandinavian country that provides healthcare to its citizens has a marginal tax rate of 71 cents for every dollar.

As I have said many times, there is no free lunch anywhere under the sun and until Ghanaians learn this basic fact of life, the Ghanaian society will remain primitive and backward as always. Ghana Police are corrupt because they are not paid well. The average salary of the policeman/woman in Canada is $80,000 indexed to inflation. What policeman/woman in his/her right mind will take bribe and lose their job? Meanwhile we have twits like Ibrahim Mahama and some idiots in society who toy and make a mockery of our tax systems because they know some big people in politics. What a joke!

The real question is: why don't our Presidents pay taxes, I mean why are they exempt from paying taxes? This country is totally screwed up by JJ Rawlings under whose watch the 1992 Constitution was promulgated. This is a complete breach of trust in the sense that people in society who can afford to pay taxes are rather exempt from it. Everything we do in this country is backward, and we wonder why we are not progressing.

ndc created the nhis with public and civil servants knowing well that these workers are viable workers.npp came and absorbed others,where is the money.now they are shouting.are they not the govt that expanded it.

It is an essential plank of primary healthcare,and we must make it work for the benefit of all.

We must employ analysts - statisticians, demographers, operational researchers, economists, insurance personnel, actuarys, computer scientists to analyse healthcare provision and improve the NHIS.

The computerisation of provision is an important step forward. We must explore the use of solar and wind power to provide electricity for hospitals, given the persistence of dumso. Proper accounting and audit is a must, to minimise fraud and maximise the use of resources.
