Think about it.
Think about history and your place in it.
By the way, some have maintained that the Stars need a brilliant lefty play-maker/schemer/dribbler/technician in the engine room, who can also hold on to balls and has better distribution rate, as well as better view of the field/pitch.
As it is now, the ambidextrous footed
Mikey Helegbe will do to assist you in the midfield (Forget Anthony Annan, he was AWOL at the just ended 2013 Afcon).

When Rawlimgs the Ofiri Kokoo Jato Kwasea no had the whole Ghanaians community behind him, he refused to honour the promise that Acheampong made. At that time he said that Acheampong was the woes of every Ghanaian, so he was going to do house cleaning exercise. I am telling you that Rawlings did worse than Acheampong during his leadership. We used tax payers money to develop your talent, when you become a star, it is your turn to help your nation achieve glory. Those problems he cites have always been part of the Ghanaian system it is nothing new. Please don't use that as an excuse. You are sending the wrong message to the young talents. I do agree however that GFA needs reform and accountability.

I think we should all agree that Michael Essien has by now paid back Ghana in whatever Ghana has invested in him. How many times hasn't he been injured playing for Ghana? All his injuries at the club level are actually aggravation of the injuries he sustained in national play. The money he makes is mostly at the club level. Let's not further jeopardize his career by insisting that he comes back to the BS. Let's leave Michael to try and make some money for his retirement too.
Most football players have no other gifts or special talents other than to play football. Most are not academically gifted and there might not be anything for them to do after football. Essien has done his part for Ghana. 'Let him be'!
ps.
Asamoah Gyan's music career is not a talent. It's a distraction.

You make it sound like Essien will become impoverished upon retirement if he plays for Ghana. These are people who make more money per month than the president of Ghana. If any of them retire into poverty it won't be because they played for their nation, but because they failed to save and invest for their retirement. Playing for Ghana should and do not deny any player a fulfilling retirement. You are making playing for your country to look like the most terrible thing one can do.

I am not saying playing for Ghana is terrible, but Essien has borne the brunt of all the mishaps that happen when football injuries occur. If any club signs him and he spend his time recovering from injuries he sustained elsewhere, should the club be happy about it? This is how he lost his place in Chelsea. I am just saying he has paid his due. Let him reestablish himself at the club level.
Football is played by eleven people and Ghana has lots of talents across the board. Having Essien will not solve our problem. We just need a competent coach and stop recycling old players because these old players will not live forever. Good Luck to you!

Wise decision but bad, or let me say, flimsy allegation. If Essien and Appiah are bringing in this stupid speculations then I don't see their love for the country. I'm saying that because there wouldn't be Stephen Appiah or Essien if there was no Ghana. There are talents in other African countries who couldn't have the opportunity to pursue their dreams just because they were not recognized with the opportunity handing to them to bring them up. The secondary schools they attended, the old players like Sly Tetteh and the others, who recruited them, were and are all products of the Republic of Ghana.
The question I keep asking is that where have they heard that the Italian FA picked up phones and called all their old players? If GFA will do that then they will have to call all the players including the ones who have retired. Where have you seen this kind of things being done? No Where!!

For the speculations about GFA not calling them is stupid to go for it. Where have you heard that the Italian FA has picked up a phone and called the players to see how they are doing? Where have we heard that the English FA has called all the players to see how they are fairing? It is just nonsense. Calling Appiah, Mensah and Essein alone to see how they are doing will bring partiality. In this case, Razak Frimpong, Amard Barruso, Junior Agogo, Joetex Frimpong, Matthew Amoah and the rest should be expecting call too.
It just doesn't make sense for Stephen Appiah to come out with such a stupid allegation. This is total selfishness.

Michael Essien to me is no more a fact in The Ghana Black Star so why plan your matches around him.
I am total against running around and chasing players who had either put their international play on hold or who have made it clear that they would play for the country of their birth. I was total against Akwesi Appiah wasting our money to go and beg Gyan to come back and giving in to his demand of the captain's band. I do not blame the Stephen Appiahs, the Richard Kingstons and the Michael Essiens these same GFA people are kissing these players behind when they are on top of their game asking them for things showing up for every little or any stupid party they would host, showing up at their houses, let them use the VVIP lounge at the airport calling them every day. You do not get a call from English FA, Italian FA or German FA President nor you see them at players parties or show up at their house or making demands hence you do not hear these nonsense, coaches visit and call his or her players when he is monitoring them, it up to the coach to ask a player to help out, Germany and England did in the 2010 WC.
It about time our GFA President and all elect people in power show some class. You Slimzay would feel the same way Stephen Appiah is feeling if in the past they were calling you for things and now they have stopped you would feel used and taken advantage off. I met a guy at my Holy Village just recently when he was up in arms about me not calling him or checking on him I asked him one simple question when was the last time I called you or checked on you when I was living here his answer was Big NO, so I asked what makes you think I would be calling you when I don't live here anymore. Not long ago I read on this same site you Slimzay asking someone to check his mail and your number has not change why didn’t you send it to everyone because you and that person has a relationship behind this site. Have you given it a thought that some of the players are not saying the same thing Stephen Appiah was saying just because GFA people had never called them before? Go ask your own home boy Hans Sarpei how many times did he get a call from the GFA during his days he was playing for the Black Star and match that to Stephen Appiah.

I give benefit of doubt to Essien. However i think one of the reasons he is alleged to have stated concernig old players smacks of intrigue. Since nothing compelled the GFA to add non-staff old players to the technical bench or the Ghanaian contingent, Stephen Appiah could have found a way to contact the GFA if he'd wanted to go help the Black Stars.
The Nigerian old players who went to South Africa expressed the interest to go and they were given access to motivate the Green Eagle's boys. I hope some aggrieved old players are not trying to be malicious by trying to discourage Essien to play for Ghana. Essien, himself told Kwesi Appiah that he could be playing for Ghana in the near future. So why the sudden turn. After all there are still some old players who still yearn to play for the Black Stars though they have been previously injured like Essien but are not getting the chance because of their form or not having a club to play regularly. "Patriotism knows no bounds". After all, "all die be die".

On his other reasons for not considering playing for Ghana, I'll ask Essien; what respect and gratitude does he want? Is he not playing for his country? Isn't it an honour to play for one's own country? Isn't it a sacrifice, sometimes, one makes to uplift his/her country to success? Will he be watching football in Africa on his visits or when he grows old; how will he feel when he sees his compatriots playing football?

Enough is enough Michael. If you wont play for Ghana again enjoy your peace. But remember that others like Paintsil are determined to die for Ghana even in the face of insults. Football fans have never been grateful whenever their teams let them down but they also drum, dance, sing in the name of their heroes when they excel. Football is like this everywhere. Essien is very right. Just consider these players as your family members who send monies ocassionally to support other children's education and upkeep. They come and play for Ghana, get injured and are ignored by the state. Just consider what happened to Ali Jarah. He ws on national assignment and got injured. What has the state done for him. He can barely feed himself. Not until the country takes steps to recognise the efforts of our heroes, Essien is more han right. "A nation that fails to honour her heroes is not worth dying for"

As much as I'd love to see talented players like Essien to compete in international events like the world cup, his decision to opt out is a good one. The handlers of the Black Stars are so naive and irresponsible. They are only geared toward racism, self-honor, and discord. They lack empathy. they are selfish, and do not face reality, These players dedicate their lives for mother Ghana, only to be treated like DIRT, if things don't go well. What they can do best is to assign BLAME to players who falter at critical moments, forgetting the fundamental fact that "TO ERR IS HUMAN"

My advise to the GFA and the National Team Body is; the should always respect and remember the the Ex-players who played for the Nation and try to include them in some activities which will inspire the others playing now. Many of them have been forgotten and the the young ones even don't know them personally. The GFA should sometimes organise matches for them and this will enable people to know them better especially those who played with their hearts for our dear Nation. Rogger Miller played for his National team in the world cup when he was over 40 years and still scored goals for them with the 20 minutes he played in each match althought he was not playing active football. Strikers like Tony Yeaboah we could have still used in the 2006 world cup, because his name alone he made in Europe would have brought fears to many teams and some of the other players. Most of the players loose confidence in the National team when they are growing old, because they look at the neglected Ex-Players and say what is going to be with them when they are no more needed, example are our fomer captains Appiah & Mensah who are still playing active football but were not even invited to the just ended AFCON, they could have helped giving some of the players some piece of advise which would have help the players because they have the experience. I think GFA should do a rethink and include some of them in the football activities in the nation like what the Germans are doing and the young players have respect for their senior ones. If the GFA respect the Ex-Players the young ones will do the same thing.

PLEASE JUST LEAVE ESSIEN ALONE TO CONCENTRATE ON HIS FUTURE IN HIS CLUB. THE BULL I SUPPORT YOU STRONGLY..........

Ghanaians, stop insulting our heroes at the least opportunity.Ghanaians and insults, that's why we are in the stae we find ourself.Ask Zlevin,he is shunning the black stars because of toon many insults perpetrated by so..called presenters on radio.Whilst the great Messi misses a penalty and criticized modestly,Ghanaians will insult you to the third and fourth generation just because it is the tax payers money used to pay them. When he excused himself for the 2006 Afcon due to an ankle injury and a team of gea,the then coach, met Mourinho, then at Chelsea, he was described as unpatriotic..In the same year during the world cup,he was our best player. If you like select two teams one led by the Ayews and the new generation of players against a Stephen Appiah led team of the John mensahs,Essiens, sulleys representing the old at the Accra Sports stadium. You will see the kind of humiliation unprecedented in Ghana soccer.Without experience,we can't stand up against any team.Barca has Puyol,Real Madrid has Alonso etc.Man u,painfully accepted Van Der Sars retirement otherwise he will not be retired.Go and find out who takes care of their injuries when Znational team players get injured.DONT CRUCIFY OUR HEROES.MORALITY IS AT ALL TIME LOW AS ANYBODY,I MEAN ANY BODY CAN WAKE UP WITHOUT PASTING AND INSULT EVEN GOD IF HE IS AMONG US.
