Ghanaians must vote against NPP because of 'dumsor' - Prof Marfo

Professor Charles Ofori Marfo, a former President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has called upon Ghanaian voters to consider the persistent issue of erratic power outages, popularly known as dumsor, when casting their ballots in the 2024 elections.

He highlighted the fact that during the 2016 elections, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) criticised the John Mahama administration for its failure to address the power crisis. However, despite promises of resolution, the problem has persisted under the current leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He suggested that if Ghanaian voters were to base their decision solely on one issue, it should be dumsor.

Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV on April 18, 2024, he emphasised that corruption and other concerns that were decisive factors in previous elections no longer hold the same weight for the upcoming polls.

“If Ghanaians were to vote based on one condition, it should be dumsor.

“Discussions about corruption and other factors influencing voters' decisions in elections are no more, so I believe that if Ghanaians should base their decision on just one particular factor to vote on, that should be dumsor, and they should vote against the NPP,” he said.

He pointed out that both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have ceased discussing corruption, making it a non-variable in the 2024 elections.
