This is definitely a step in the right direction, a first short step, to reclaim the NPP for the whole country from the Ashanti and Eastern regions. As promised, I hope Paul Afoko should now assemble his team to begin the ardours task of rebranding the NPP to make it more appealing to non-Akans. Akans should also be willing to embrace the change because that is the only way NPP can ever return to power. In the wise words of one of the founders of the party, Mr C.K Tedam, United you stand, divided you fall. Pride usually comes before the fall. NDC has learnt its lesson that national inclusion is the only way to win power; I hope NPP has learnt theirs. Start by getting rid of the Akan slogans and replace these with tribe neutral ones. Yes, Akan is the most populous tribe in Ghana and its language widely spoken but why should other cultures and traditions be marginalised because of that? Most Akans within the NPP are plagued with a sense of entitlement. The party is even merrier if it pulls a large crowd across the various tribal divides.
There is also a salient and poignant trend emerging. Northern region has become the one and only dominant area in the north that has received recognition by the various political parties. Nip this impression in the bud by ensuring that the other two regions in the north are featured too. Indeed, Paul Afoko, from the Bulsa district in the Upper East Region, has a part to play in ensuring that the other parts of the north are recognised.
