As the days go by more and more people wake up to the reality of the ndc anti Akan hate agenda and their deep rooted corrupt dark souls of evil .This was first initiated by the Ewes and through Mahama and his brothers being championed today by the northerners. We see in Iraq/Syria the announce of the Islamic caliphate state and their map which now includes Ghana and the whole of West Africa .Most people are ignorant of the fact that unlike in Christianity and other religions whereby the leaders or priests are men of peace in Islam their imams or priests advocate for war and destruction of the non believers and when war starts every single one of them assumes the title emir and becomes the captain of a murderous horde as we saw in Libya and with the boko haram. The mosque is not only a place of worship but an army fortress or barracks and that is why they must in the design in every area which is not predominately Muslim its required to have a tall reconnaissance tower. we see in Accra and other places these mosques spring up all over the place at militarily very strategic positions but we are vigilant and when our bloody revolution starts we will raze all these structures to the ground and drive out this menace from our midst . There are some brainwashed idiotic fools who still believe mahama has good intentions but don't know he is a Muslim disguised as a christian which Islam allows and his only agenda is to weaken with corruption and destroy with negligence the Akan economy so the caliphate can be achieved that is why no project of strategic importance can see the light of day under his watch. As for the Ewes his partners in crime all i can say is have you ever wondered why when you go to Togo there the Ewes are very nice people and true African brothers but the moment you cross the Aflao border into Ghana the ayigbe wickedness , hate and evil starts? The ewes in Togo know these ayigbe are so bad and useless that they are not interested in reuniting with them but would rather throw them all into the sea. We should find a way to trick them into taking them back as we Akans will definitely be better off without this foolish idiotic people. Mahama and his brothers have stolen so much that even the bank of Ghana admits they dont know where our foreign reserves have disappeared to , i can tell you where , Turkey , Iran, Dubai and other Muslim countries where its safe for them. Congrats to Kumasi for hitting the nail on the head and exposing the discrimination and abuse of the civil/human rights with the WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO YOU demonstration , today we see idiots and saboteurs trying turn it into a question of mere economics , even one idiot woman came out with a humiliating brainless idea to go naked just to deflect from the main core issue of discrimination against the Akans. My people we have only one problem and if that's solved the rest will be easy , the problem is discrimination and the Anti Akan agenda of part of this mafia ndc . its never about npp , ndc ,left or right wing ideology politics but simply pepeni/ayigbe tribalism against Akan nationalist evolution. They are only attracted to ideas that only destroy our economy like this EPA paramount foolishness with the Europeans or giving away our gold fields to foreigners who never invest here in the name of prudent business , end result our people are exploited and made poorer. we shall never surrender or be fooled again. While we were thinking of a better Ghana for ALL citizens they were thinking of only themselves and destroying the future for our children . We need to have our revolution and secede to form our own state as they will never change.

For one, they do not have to do anything different with the polys. It confers the due recognition polytechnics are long overdue to a degree status. We need the polys more than ever and giving them the status they deserve will enable our best and brightest to attend them. Even the NDC cannot mess this up, all they have to do is declare polys as universities and the legal status of being able to confer degrees

Polys are similar to community college in Canada and usa. Keep the name poly,.don't change it. Upgrade the course offerings, hands on, practical course offerings of these Polys. Enable students who complete their poly education transfer to university to complete 1 or 2 yrs before they obtain a university degree. Keeping the name poly helps to.differentiate between the 2 tertiary forms.of education. There are still tertiary institutions in North America with poly names e.g cal poly, ryerson poly, etc...wats with all this name change, technical bullcrap? 1. AS YOU PLAN THIS CONVERSION, IT IS IMPORTANT TO ALSO PLAN ON PLACEMENT OF THE PRODUCTS OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES ON THE SALARY SCALE. OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE A LOT OF WORKPLACE AGITATION ETC. WHERE DO THEY FIT IN THE MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE AND WHAT ARE THEIR COMPARATIVE SALARY LEVELS? THESE QUESTIONS MUST BE UNEQUIVOCALLY ADDRESSED WITH DISPATCH BEFORE THE TAKE OFF.
2. TO GAIN EXPERIENCE, SELECTED POLYTECHNIC LECTURERS MUST BE SPONSORED TO VISIT SOME OF THE UNIVERSITIES OF SIMILAR STATUS IN PLACES LIKE SOUTH AFRICA, GERMANY AND FINLAND AND NETHERLANDS. THEN THERE CAN BE EFFECTIVE TRANSFER OF EXPERIENCE. THE PRACTICE WHERE THOSE WHO SIT IN OFFICES MANAGING EDUCATION ARE SENT FOR SUCH TRIPS IS MOST WASTEFUL AND MUST CHANGE. THANK YOU.

I AM NOT SURE BUT CHANGING OR NAMING TECHNICAL SCHOOLS UNIVERSITIES IS JUST CREATING IVORY TOWERS. I DO NOT KNOW IN GHANA BUT TECHNICAL SCHOOL EDUCATION HAS A DISTINCT ROLE IN THE CHAIN OF ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES. IT IS JUST LIKE THE MEDICAL PROFESSION AND THE NURSING INSTITUTIONS. THERE ALWAYS WILL BE NURSES AND SO IS THE TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTIONS. THE TWO COMPLEMENT EACH OTHER THOUGH THE ROLES ARE DIFFERENT. WE MUST ENSURE THE CONTENT DOES NOT CHANGE. AS THE WRITER POINTED OUT, ARE WE CREATING MORE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES OR NAME CHANGING? IT IS THE CONTENT OF THE SUBJECTS OF THE PROPOSED CHANGES THAT WE MUST GUARD AGAINST.

I beg to differ,.... turning polytechnics into universities, technical or otherwise is not the way to go. we need institutions that train technicians, technologists, and vocational experts. You do not necessarily have to train these crop of personnel in the university environment. KNUST is already a technical university where they train graduate engineers. If those engineers are not technical then what are they....they have just failed to perform their technical duties because of lack of facilities and funding. And changing poly into university would travel the same doomed pathway. We need institutions that train technicians and technologist and that is in the polytechnics, technikons, SAITS, NAITS and so on. These technicians do not need to have paper degree before they become technical people. We have this SAIT nad NAIT models in all the advance countries....... Ghanaians like empty degrees so much.

If these areas picked up, you don't need to chase foreign investors, rather they would be pleading with us to come and invest in our beloved country with our condition favorable to us. We should put stop these party manifesto to please certain region, rather to do what would yield good dividend which can be spread across the whole country.

When we were young, we heard of one neighbour African Country which had a university in each of its 19 regions. Even before I travelled outside the country to meet some of these so-called graduates, there were stories about how useless these graduates were. And when I finally came close to some of these graduates, there was no doubt quality is better than quantity!
My colleagues and I, at the time, were proud that Ghana did not have that many useless universities and that our Polytechnics and Technical Institutes were just what we needed.
Without being disrespectful to our graduates, there was a time in our history that when University Trained graduates and Poly trained Technicians applied for particular engineering jobs in a some companies in Ghana, the Poly trainees were given preference because they had been trained directly as engineers!
When they started turning our technical institutes to Polytechnics without any improvement in facilities, some of us started getting worried. Were they turning us into that country with one university per region?
It has been claimed that one of the main reasons why the Ghana Methodist Church adopted the bishopric ministry was that at national functions, the Bishops of the Anglican and Catholic churches were given the top seats while the Reverend Minister President of the Methodist Church had to contend himself with the seats on the other side. There seems to be a similar reason here, as this report seems to indicate, for turning the Polytechnics into Universities. But this is not convincing enough. The best that could be done would be to make the Polytechnics extended campuses of KNUST - the only Government Technical University in Ghana, and have all the Polytechnic qualifications moderated by the university. Turning the Polytechnics into universities without first upgrading infrastructure is a wrong move; it will only degrade our educational system further and further.
It would follow the same mistake that was made when the JSS idea was introduced. My son, who was in JSS 2, came home and started talking about tangents and loci. But he never brought home any drawing homework. So I decided to visit their class and find out exactly what the teachers were up to. That was in 1996, when the JSS had been going for over 10 years. When I visited the class one morning, I found out that there was only one pair of compasses in the double stream JSS site. The kids had no idea what a T-square looked like, or how a drawing board was different from the form desk. And talk about drawing sheets and pins when the teacher herself was using starch to demonstrate how to hold down a graphic sheet on the door of the books cupboard. Chisels and planes were tools for the carpenter's workshop under the trees near the village market.
You go to some of these polytechnics are they are still equipped with the same chisels the Canadian government supplied in the mid-sixties. The libraries are still stuffed with the 1973 editions of Nelcon that the Indian lecturers donated as their parting gifts at the end of their contracts. The walls of the classrooms have not seen a new paint this side of the millennium. Are these the new campuses of our soon to be upgraded universities? God help Ghana!

Good idea but 3 points to consider
1) First carry out Skills Gap Analysis study to know the type of skills being demanded especially by the private companies in the country.
2) A lot of our 4 year university graduates are over-qualified for most of the technical jobs companies advertise in the country because the focus of their training is geared towards working in the office environment. They do not want to get their hands duty even if they have technical backgrounds. The type of technical skills that is missing in our country are those skills that can be completed within 2 years of training and grant students with diploma qualifications in for example carpentry; electrical, mechanical, civil, mining, industrial etc. engineers; plumbing; HVAC; Computer and internet-related programs; agricultural-related skills etc.
3) The part of the programs' curricula, the we need to link the students with the private companies for internship so they can gain practical experience even before they graduate. If these are the skills the private sector is looking for, definitely they will be willing to pay higher salaries and benefits to the graduates of these new universities than even those with 4 year university degrees. Simple demand and supply will determine the higher price to be paid to the student from the polytechnic university.
